A propos my hypothesis that those looking for democratic unity lack the the psychological fortitude to weather personal conflict

When you avoid the unpleasantness of -gasp- rejecting association with your opponent, you displace your discomfort onto those most vulnerable to your opponent’s abuses.
I've been sitting with this piece of @olufemiotaiwo.bsky.social for two days, reading it, re-reading it. You should too. #EzraKlein is the avatar of a new kind of liberal indulgence for the worst of the far-right, embracing bad-faith as a practice. www.bostonreview.net/articles/how...

it is a little amusing to me that Trump is indicting Comey, the federal official who took arguably the single most effective pro-Trump action in the last 10 years. getting a little chuckle out of that

A first-semester freshman at Auburn -- who has not even experienced one month as a student -- is demanding universities purge faculty members who dared to be critical of the man who created the Professor Watchlist.

Calling college presidents & donors ... as one does their first month in college.

can't stop thinking of how little kids died in chapel, praying on the first day of fall term, but somehow Charlie Kirk--a man who accepted school shootings as the guarantor of unconstrained gun access--is the martyr. may God have mercy on the innocent; Charlie Kirk was not of them.

look, it is comforting to think that your political opponents are, at the end of the day, just people like you who really want us all to live together as Americans.

it's just very obviously not *true* in MAGA's case, as you can tell through, well, what they say and do.

What I can't get over is that they're bending the knee to this guy. Like, this fucking guy specifically. Not a military genius like Caesar or Napoleon or a psychopathic god like Hitler or Mao but this fucking rube. I don't understand how democracy can work in this country if this is all it takes.

People want everything to be a binary between dooming and “we’re so back” but I’ll just say this is both a really troubling attack on press freedom and an open admission that your regime is fragile enough to feel threatened by Jimmy fucking Kimmel

We're witnessing the most aggressive, fanatical crackdown on free speech in my lifetime. The speed and breadth of government censorship and private sector and nonprofit capitulation has been astonishing. As has the lack of urgency/silence from people who've long claimed to care about this stuff.

Did you know your MacBook has a sensor that knows the exact angle of the screen hinge?

It’s not exposed as a public API, but I figured out a way to read it and make it sound like an old wooden door.

insane to me that anyone can watch a video of ICE goons tearing someone apart from their family and then go on national television and say we're focused on the crime. The crime is the disappearance of our neighbors. If you can't confront this go ahead and resign, you are now an obstacle to justice.

again, i get how we got here and i'm not sure how to avoid it, but the shift in understanding "religion" as protected by the 1st amendment from "membership and participation in organized faith communities" to "whatever idiosyncratic beliefs you happen to hold" is potentially pretty destabilizing
