I like to simplify power effects. I use to try to make them all crazy. In addition to reducing clutter, putting the spirals behind Magneto makes the magnetic waves feel “invisible” in the world but not to the reader.

Bishop's cannon is suppose to be an output for his kinetic energy powers. So let's make it like a super-soaker where the grip is a pump and he can cha-chuck some juice into it.
