19. Medal of Honor (PS1)

Solid WWII FPS, and as long as you use control scheme 4 (modern dual-stick controls), I think it's aged quite nicely. Although the fog is rough at times, this is a great looking game for the PS1. And THE OST bro, it goes very hard. Love the tone this game sets.

17. Dragon Ruins (PC)

This is a short auto-battler dungeon crawler that some folks made in a game jam so this was a short and sweet game for me. The vibes are peak. I did a few runs and had some good fun. This is a perfect game to play in Discord while shooting the shit with the homies.

16. Kirby’s Dream Land 2 (GB)

Kirby is cute and all but this game isn’t for me. Not unfun, but not particularly fun either. I don’t really like how Kirby games handle secrets and completion, the gameplay doesn’t hook me enough to want to replay levels to try new things. I still got true ending tho.

I had a lot of fun going through every game, getting all of the achievements, getting high scores on the Exo Attack leaderboard, and discovering various secrets. I actually got my latest Exo Attack Vick high score using a secret character that’s detailed in the game’s digital manual 🕵️

15. RetroDotCards (GBA)

The concept of new GBA e-Reader cards in 2025 is a wild thing, and I’m so impressed at how @retrodotcards.com make these paper cards come to life on my GBA. This release was unironically my most anticipated game(s) of the year, and I wasn’t disappointed.

14. Ninja Gaiden II (NES)

Holy moly this was tough. I love how Ninja Gaiden games just say "here's some bullshit. but you can do it, here's infinite continues. go figure it out". Is that not hype?

I'd say this was easier than NG1, I pushed through this in a night without having played before.

13. Rockman (NES/Famicom)

I’ve trash talked this game a lot, but never actually sat down to beat it. I didn’t set out to beat Mega Man 1 tonight, but I just powered through. And honestly, it’s not as bad as I’ve made it out to be vocally and in my mind. It’s far from perfect, but I’ve played worse.

12. Pokemon Ruby (GBA)

It’s been more than 10 years since I’ve last played a Pokemon game, the only other one being HeartGold which was straight fire when I was a kid. Playing this brought me back to feeling like a kid, and although a little flawed I really enjoyed the time I had playing this.

She’s great, recently she woke us up early in the morning by finding her way into my gym bag and making lots of noise

11. Portal (PS3)

Played this via The Orange Box on PS3. Went in blind somehow, since this game is getting old now. Really really cool game, loved it all. Only bummer is I totally got motion sick from this at times, which is very unusual for me playing non-VR games. Would still play the sequel, tho.

10. Pikmin 2 (Wii)

Fuck this game was really hard. Never before have I dreaded a game so much while playing it and when not playing I think fondly of it. I mean that in a good way, its difficulty is what makes it so memorable to me and why I enjoyed it. Let a game kick your ass once in a while.

9. Mario Kart Wii (Wii)

This is kind of cheating for this list, I played countless hours of this game as a kid. However, I played but never “””completed””” it (in lots of quotations) like I have with all of the other Mario Kart games recently. So glad I took a deep dive into this one - a 🧵:

8. Gears of War (Xbox 360)

The first “staple” Xbox game I’ve played, and it was pretty good. Really fun gameplay that’s aged mostly well, I’d play the sequels for gameplay alone. I wanted a little more narratively, I feel like there was supposed to be more and there just wasn’t? Overall a fun time.

7. Mega Man 6 (NES)

Great Mega Man game, the last NES one I gave a shot. This might be my #2 right behind MM2, this and 5 are close for me. Really fun, tight bosses and level design, great music, and graphically pushed the limits of the NES.

6. Metroid Prime Pinball (DS)

Apparently this is a game you can beat, I played this a lot casually but ended up getting real good and made it to the end credits??? It basically just takes you through the Metroid Prime campaign, but it’s pinball. Pretty cool, I had a lot of fun with this one.

5. Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga (3DS)

Good overall. Pretty weak start imo but a very strong final few hours that left me satisfied. Combat and puzzles were quite fun when the game was ready to give me something challenging. Didn’t do the Bowser’s Minions content, didn’t have any interest in that.

4. Mario Kart Double Dash (GameCube)

Not my favorite Mario Kart but still a very fun time. It took a while for me to realize the benefits of having 2 riders, but once I got it I thought it was pretty cool. Also despite the stress it caused me, All Tour Cup is a really cool challenge.

3. Astro Bot (PS5)

Now that’s what I call an all-time great. Mario Galaxy is a game I love dearly and am very nostalgic for, and something about this game really hit that same spot for me. It’s so full of joy, made with lots of love, and was just dang fun. A rare 10/10 for me.

2. Metroid Fusion (GBA)

Fine game but not nearly as good as its predecessor, Super Metroid. Too linear, not really any cool upgrades, fairly easy, and weaker presentation than Super Metroid. Story bits were neat and SA-X is a sick enemy.

Again, fine, but I really wanted more from this game.

Check out Little Red Riding Hood’s Zombie BBQ, idk how to even describe its gameplay but it’s sort of a rail shooter but also not? It’s very fun and pretty challenging, and has a fun silly story. My favorite obscure DS game to recommend for sure.

1. Leisure Suit Larry (PC, VGA)

I enjoy point and click adventure games. This is certainly one of the point and click adventures of all time.

Short and sweet and has some ok humor but punishing if you don’t save often and has some weird design choices. A real product of its time.
