Today we decided to get over the jet lag alone in Istanbul while the others went ahead, and my sister meets us tomorrow from Amsterdam. It’s quite nice to not worry about others and just snooze! Our big exciting thing to notice about our suburb in Istanbul is that there are kittens everywhere!

We stayed awake until mid afternoon and then conked out guilt free because our next flight is at 630am we are back up with the birds tomorrow so we may as well sleep as much as we can, and worry about sleep patterns tomorrow. Travelling with my brother brings some very childish behaviour…

Well our first biggest travel leg is DONE. We left our regional home on Saturday morning NZ time, and arrived at our hotel in Istanbul at 11:30pm Sunday NZ time. Same clothes and shoes. Exhausted, but remarkably still feeling well and alert-ish.

My life at present. Living well. But bitter about it… (ps, I live alone, it was me that did the peanut thing)

The nurses on the picket line in Hamilton’s CBD just copped a barrage of abuse from a young man.
Their responses
“Is he ok”
“Is anyone with him”
“Poor fellow is really escalated”
“Is anyone here familiar with him?”
Just absolute empathy and no fear for thier own safety

Just finished helping a close friend pack some of her house up ready for moving house. The highlight was her cat, who knows NOTHING of personal space

Drop an old person you’re going to turn into in the future.
Mine is Granny Weatherwax.
Suffers no fools.
Knows cackling has a purpose.
Always there to help, but people are a bit scared of her

Two thumbs up and a massive thank you for the Sunday TeHuia service - we had our first weekend guest to stay who could travel to us from Auckland to Kirikiriroa by train AND GET HOME AGAIN! Such a pleasure @rochellei.bsky.social

Nurses are leaving, and I’m not going to lie, I put feelers out this year. It’s ok to work with patients who might die due to illness. It’s morally injuring to know that systematic delays might be causing more deaths
July 29, 2025 at 9:23 PM
We have data that shows 50% of shifts were understaffed and they want to stop using the tool we use to provide that evidence- you can’t report what you aren’t counting
July 29, 2025 at 9:21 PM
Nurses will put up with a lot at work. (Genuinely; you have NO idea the range of stuff nurses deal with unless you are one), but they can’t tolorate patients suffering
July 29, 2025 at 9:20 PM
Health NZ has ignored concerns and deliberately underfunded resources.
Or worse? Not deliberate? Did they really accidentally fund the nurses at the previous pay level or is that just a mean rumour?
