At lunch today the register cleared before the young lady noted my change.
I had given her a $10 for a $9.58 meal.
The screen was blank. She started counting on her fingers. She stopped. She restarted.
“42 cents,” I said.
Her look said I had performed eldritch sorcery, not arithmetic.
