Data guy since way back when.

Runs a bit (sometimes a lot).

Potentially the only profile yet here with data governance in the description :)

I've seen decisions stall on the phrase 'we don't have enough data.' This is not about the data. It's often a fear of asking a question that might be wrong. The best leaders don't wait for answers; they form hypotheses and test them.

Good news: data is our priority now! Bad news: there are twenty-three other priorities (and that's just for Tuesday!)

Question for the bilingual among you. I’m heading to Paris and would like enough grasp of the French language to be comfortable. I took high school French (40 years ago so much is now forgetter). Looking ideas please: the best way to learn enough of the language in 4 months. Babbel? Something else?

Re-reading Cal Newport’s ‘Deep Work’. I’d forgotten how many great ideas it has in there. Time to remind myself to re-adopt a few! It’s well worth the read if you find yourself yearning for the good old days when you had the time to do meaningful work!

Four flights in the last few days gave me the chance to get a few books in.

Alberto Cairo's How Charts Lie: Getting Smarter about Visual Information is well worth the read (and the recommendation to colleagues who create or consume charts & other visualisations)
