It happens when we focus so much on what our competitors are doing that we end up imitating them just to keep up… maybe even trying to improve on their advantage slightly. But 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺, when 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲, 𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻’𝘁 𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲.

That says everything about 𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗮𝗹𝘁𝘆, 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. When customers 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 that deeply, 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗽𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲. Does it work for EVERY customer? Of course not. But Evian and others are doing just fine.

And I realized…he was totally right. I could’ve just grabbed some water from the fountain for free, but I went for that brand instead because, for better or worse, I thought it seemed better. After all, it stood out.
