Just updated to v1.1 based on a bunch of player feedback, the playtest package for the #CORE20RPG includes the full “Playtest Player’s Guide” and “Playtest Magic Grimoire” — the entirety of the player-and-GM-facing rules of the game — plus a 180-strong creature package and guidelines for GMs.

The #CORE20RPG is a new approach to d20 fantasy, built on a foundation of freeform characters with no classes and no levels. It turns the aging “pass/fail” core d20 mechanic into fuel for shared storytelling — and you can play for free right now!

I don’t want to tell WestJet their business, but I feel as though taking a bus from Paris to Calgary is going to be slightly problematic!

This sixteenth-century painting by Daniele da Volterra has clearly been created using AI, just look at those chonky finger-toes, I am outraged at the Louvre’s lack of a clear anti-AI stance in its curation policies!

Today I learned that sometimes at the Louvre, they pull a couple of people out of the massive crowd in front of the Mona Lisa and let them come up in front of the barrier and take a nice close look.

A brief stop in Luxembourg. Al Jazeera was on the TV in the hotel lobby when we arrived, public transit is free, and I just had the best kebab I’ve ever eaten in my life.

Annecy is lovely this time of year. Or any time of year, I’m guessing.

I am not at Gamehole Con this year, having killed all plans for traveling south of the border anytime soon. I am missing a great many people who I would have loved to see in person. But instead, I get to wander medieval fortresses while wearing a Gamehole Con T-shirt, and that’s all right.

I have no opinion on Roman bread, having never tried it. But based even on what’s left of the arena at Arles, I feel confident that the Romans had that circus thing sussed out pretty well.

In Arles. Apparently, the Romans thought it was just fine to leave all their junk lying around the countryside when they wandered off. I can’t believe it’s been fifteen hundred years and the French still haven’t cleaned this place up.

Carcassonne la nuit.

Carcassonne la nuit.
Of years three-score; yea, I am old,
And naught but toil has filled my days,
Wherein my one desire, oft told,
Unsatisfied, still finds delays,
Till it would seem that here on earth
Perfect good fortune is not won;
My vow has never come to birth,
For I have not seen Carcassonne.
And naught but toil has filled my days,
Wherein my one desire, oft told,
Unsatisfied, still finds delays,
Till it would seem that here on earth
Perfect good fortune is not won;
My vow has never come to birth,
For I have not seen Carcassonne.

I mean, I personally enjoy a bit of gardening, but the grounds of Chateau Villandry might be taking things to excess.

I get chateau fatigue pretty fast because I’m honestly not that into fancy houses where some really rich douche used to live. So I was pleasantly wowed by Chaumont-sur-Loire, which we went to largely for the gardens, only to find that the gardens have invaded the chateau interior to awesome effect.

Okay, so I’m at this cathedral, and I’m a virulent antismoker, so no problems there. And sure, I get that I shouldn’t take ice cream into this masterpiece of Norman romanesque and gothic architecture. But when the Catholic church tells me I have to leave my wolf outside, this will not stand!
