Such order from confusion sprung

The proper response to this as a journalist is "well no matter how you feel about the judge, until you win an appeal it is a valid order, and violating it is a crime punishable by prison. Did you knowingly violate the order?"
KARL: Did you know about the judge's order when you issued your order for the planes to continue?

KRISTI NOEM: This is an activist judge. We comply with all federal orders that are lawful and binding.

This is astonishingly awful, and I can't imagine who, actually seeing/hearing the results, would imagine it was going to be acceptable to an audience.

This feels like an invitation to start making fandubs, and bypassing official releases entirely: surely not the intended end result?
The only thing less human than these AI dub performances is the decision to sign off on them

A company this big can pay human actors a decent wage, not produce slop that intentionally removes the human element.

My city doesn't have the resources NYC has. But if we did . . .
Soon small businesses won’t have to wait for Small Business Saturday to get attention from their Mayor.

Some changes that they can look forward to:

You know that thing about "Do not comply in advance?" It applies to giving up and accepting your Cuomos and Newsoms as the best we can do because Dem consultants say so.

We may have to vote for less-awful candidates in the end, but God, you can't expect people to pretend to be happy about it.
There is an extraordinary sense of entitlement behind the belief that there ought to be political party that aligns 100% with your own opinions.

No news to the sf/fantasy community, where the idea of the internet as an otherworld (or many otherworlds) has been floating around since the days of GEnie. But a lovely piece nevertheless, and interesting to see it go mainstream.
Both beautiful and terrifying, Katya’s sublime essay in yesterday’s New York Times is a piece of writing that needs to be read (at least) twice: once for its insights, once for the pleasure of its precise, lyrical prose. Gift link:

Yeah, this. I don't want or need a new phone. See also my toaster oven, my microwave, my car. I'm not hoarding them, I'm using them.
If a phone still works fine, it’s not “device hoarding” to keep using it. It’s common sense.

"The beatings will continue until morale improves." We're all used to it, but I'm not sure I've ever seen it stated quite so explicitly by authority.
Duffy: "Trump talks about the golden age of transportation. But the golden age in transportation truly begins with you ... People dress up like they're going to bed when they fly ... so we want to push people as we come into a really busy travel season: Help people out, be in a good mood, dress up"

Zohran Mamdani doesn’t make me, an American Jew, feel unsafe.

Having the Coast Guard, which falls under the Department of Homeland Security, decide that a swastika isn’t really a symbol of hate? That makes me, an American Jew, feel pretty damn unsafe.

I'm not saying you can easily find Larry Summers email by googling his name and workplace and I am 100% NOT suggesting you bother him. PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS! It might distract him from covering up underaged sex crimes or sexpesting. Behave. This is a warning! Respect the guy.

HOLY SHIT. They found the genes for fibromyalgia - and it's *not* autoimmune, it's the central nervous system. It's very cool to see some progress made on the thing that's ruined my life since late teenage years!
Medical Republic: 'Fibromyalgia finally gets a genetic fingerprint'

'Additionally, certain risk loci overlapped with long covid (BPTF) and ME/CFS (OLFM4, RABGAP1L/GPR52), two poorly characterised disorders, albeit with different lead variants.'

If you refuse to help kids in situations like this, you can't punish them when they resort to proportionate self-help. That's how the Playground Rules are supposed to work.

If you don't think the tacit rules of engagement should apply the same way to girls as to boys, you're part of the problem.
This is rape culture.

This is why so many people don’t come forward.

A young girl was being bullied at school by a boy who made AI generated nudes of her.

She told the principal. She told the guidance counsellor. They didn’t stop it.

Finally she hit the boy responsible, and SHE got expelled:
A Louisiana girl hit a boy who was sharing deepfake nude photos of her. She was expelled.
“This girl was abused,” one of the family’s attorneys said, noting that she endured sexual exploitation and harassment. And the expulsion “was like pouring salt in the wound.”

Many are calling for Chuck Schumer's resignation. What hasn't been reported until now is that any Senate Democrat can offer a motion to challenge his leadership position, and it would have to get a vote within 7 days. From @whitneycwimbish.bsky.social:
