i think it might be worth banning or heavily restricting LLMs, but doing so by asserting that the commons has always been completely closed and that it is absurd to assert otherwise is contrary both to what the law actually says and to good public policy

There's a tendency among a certain type of poster to assume everything they hate about politics and the state can be blamed on avarice, and I'm here to tell you it's actually worse than that.
I continue to disagree with this. The goal of mass detention is mass deportations. A private prison company leasing 100 beds to ICE gets paid the same if the beds are filled by 100 people for a year each or 1,000 people for a few days each. They don't earn more with long-term detention.
It's not about deporting them. It's about detaining them indefinitely and enriching Prisons for Profiteers and the grift the Convict in the Oval Office collects per detainee.

In addition to being straight-up Nazi rhetoric, the "undocumented immigrants caused the housing crisis" lie seems designed to drive me, personally, insane.

“With great power comes great responsibility” is the core moral of what is fundamentally a famous picture book for children. It is quite naturally far too complex a text for our media betters to comprehend.
“But we are just smol reporters” doesn’t fly at the nation’s largest and most powerful publication.

how about a piece of investigative journalism that accuses a mayoral candidate of fraud based on an application for college he filled out when he was 17 that a neo-Nazi gave the paper because they were racist? you're insulting the intelligence of everyone here to imply this is about standards
I am not defending Landon’s relationship with Epstein. In fact, the NYT didn’t even try to defend it. He left the paper. What I’m saying is that a piece of investigative journalism that exposes a secret, criminal act such as statutory rape requires far more than what is in these emails.

The filibuster has become a fascinating litmus test of the chasm separating D senators from their voters. It's not just a disagreement. Ending the filibuster is now close to an article of faith among D voters; for the Senators it's like abolishing habeas or trial by jury. Unthinkable, unamerican.

Constitutional law courses should make students spend a week writing essays about this bluesky post.
It’s plausible the Supreme Court strikes down Trump’s tariffs, at least in part, since the majority’s earlier rulings have followed the standard that Trump can break the law whenever he wants except perhaps when doing so causes the Justices, their bribers, and other rich people to lose money.

I appreciate the dilemma that conservatives find themselves in: Most don't like pedophiles but voting for one is the only way to get:
* masked federal goons invading our cities to violate citizen's rights
* super high import taxes
* usurping Appropriation powers from congress
