i think i would take the hysteria over mamdani’s ability to govern more seriously if half these people hasn’t endorsed eric adams
mamdani's win has made the ny times, the washington post, fox news, trump, third way, and the democratic establishment very mad

excellent.

A lot of ppl think Mamdani has crazy ideas. I think he *will* have some trouble because a bunch of them are fully new programs that need a (new) revenue stream. But for the reform-within stuff, he'll have a ton of levers to move
I think the thing that's missing about the hard power of the mayor is they can't do a ton alone, historically mayors have asked for power from the council or the state for things they want to do and if it's not crazy then it's given to them.

I don't understand language like this. Can we be disappointed in Schumer, sure. But we have to stop the circular shooting squad. They are not traitors to democracy.

This is not a vote that has the consequences people are attributing to it.
Cloture has met the 60 votes to pass in the senate with the help of at least 9 Democrats: Schumer, Fetterman, Hassan, Cortez Masto, Durbin, Gillibrand, Shaheen, Schatz, and Peters.

They sold out our country to Trump and Elon. They're traitors to democracy.

I don't even understand how this could be done without completely dismantling copyright. "I was training an AI" becomes every copyright violation defense.

I really think at its heart philosophy is one giant battle, taking place over many eras and nations, between people who are basically pleasant bureaucrats and people who are sexy murder poets, and it’s both super important and super boring that the pleasant bureaucrats must win.

The bigger issue is that ActBlue is probably as close to "the democratic party" without being the democratic party. If this is politically directed then we're already getting very close to arresting opposing party opponents like Russia, Egypt, ...

A genuine tragedy. It's no exaggeration to say that John and Caryn have made NYC a richer place over the years. And it breaks my heart that my beloved WNYC can't seem to chart a path forward.

@askhistorians.bsky.social have you considered having a [Answered] post flair or is there a way to filter on questions that have been answered? I assume the weekly highlights are not comprehensive?

Journos should stop portraying Trump's "flood the zone" strategy as something supremely savvy, effective, and deviously brilliant. This is Trumpworld's *spin.* No need to credulously echo it. On the pod @timothynoah.bsky.social and I suggest an alternate narrative:

This is why the media helped Trump win
This.👇
I paid to subscribe to several more independent publications today. We have to fund reporters who are willing and able to take a stand, put money behind good journalism, and ensure that there will be uncompromising reporting on culture, politics, and technology

When the Patriot Act was passed, libraries got requests for patrons’ borrowing history. We were prohibited from disclosing those requests.

We deleted and shredded those records and stopped tracking reading history for that reason.

This is naive. It's not a coincidence that 45 and the GOP focus so much on comms but not how to improve americans' lives. A candidate can only be good at so many things
I don’t know who told Democrats running for president that they should never do interviews and that they should never do their own social media, but the consultant who figures out that voters like an candidate who does their own social media and who does interviews will probably make even more money
