Slapshot Multicoloured lights swung and pulsed overhead. He was awash in a rainbow of flashing colour that jumped and spun frantically over the pit. Lasers were added to the show, though they were kept pointed at the high ceiling. Geometric shapes and patterns formed and dissolved over and over again in bright, solid-looking colours. A fog machine had been started up and swirled through moving, dancing, spinning legs. The white smoke curled upward like tendrils reaching for them. People jumped around them, knocking into each other and themselves, bouncing and careening away until they met the next body. The frenzied song had no lyrics, just keyboards and synths that worked the crowd up in a jumping mass that screamed their pleasure and excitement. It made Yuuji’s heart race and blood spike. Endorphins flooded his brain and cranked the alcohol in his system up to a ten. The music was in him and he moved against Sukuna.

Trees were pressed close to the wolf like a shelter, their branches bent to put the wolf into deep shadows. If his magick hadn’t brought him to the wolf, he would have never seen it. Its breathing was ragged, wet and rasping. Its six—six—legs twitched with each breath, its mouth alternating between a pained snarl and limp groaning. Bleary, pain-filled red eyes looked up at Yuuji. He could see a flicker of something in that eye—eyes, a double set of eyes—something like intelligence and recognition.

At their height, it was like a rug of trees stretched out before them. Only a ribbon of blue interrupted the sight, a river that snaked through separating the two halves of the valley. The sky was clear, dotted only with birds swooping to and fro, and the sun was bright. A gentle breeze picked up over the ridge, cooling the sweat that dotted Yuuji’s forehead. The wind brushed Yuuji’s bangs away from his forehead and he closed his eyes, tipping his face into the wind. It was a sweet relief and the view was even sweeter. “It really is a great view,” Yuuji said. He opened his eyes and turned to look at Megumi, a wide smile on his face. He met Megumi’s gaze, the cool green of his irises like a cut gemstone.
