Schau an, was uns neulich bei der Recherche in einer alten Ausgabe der GameStar über den Weg gelaufen ist: Das war die Anzeige, auf die sich Gunnar und Christian seinerzeit (Anfang 1998) beworben haben. Was dann für beide der Berufseinstieg wurde - und schließlich bis zu Stay Forever geführt hat.

My cartoon for this week’s Guardian Books.
Panel one: Two small figures stand before a huge machine. One says “Our startup has innovated the human writer out of the publishing process. This machine can write sixty-five books an hour.” A conveyor belt at the front of the machine dispatches a continuous stream of books. Panel two: They walk across the workshop. The second figure, who is reading one of the books, says “but will people actually want to read this stuff?” Panel three: They have reached a second huge machine. “The real beauty of our integrated system” says the first figure “is that it also frees companies from the tyranny of human readers”. A conveyor belt at the front of the machine dispatches a continuous stream of robot readers, happily consuming the content from the other machine.

my cartoon for this week’s Guardian Books.
Panel 1 A presenter at a desk holds up a book and says "Now on Bookchat, we are delighted to welcome the co-authors of runaway bestseller ROBOT APOCALYPSE 2030" Panel 2 The presenter turns to a man and a robot who sit on a sofa next to the desk and says "Litbot-500, how did it feel to collaborate with a Nobel prizewinner?" The robot replies "I HAVE ADMIRED JOHN'S WRITING SINCE MY INCEPTION. SO IT WAS A DREAM COME TRUE TO WRITE NON-FICTION TOGETHER." Panel 3 The human writer corrects the robot "You mean fiction" The robot's eyes have turned from green to yellow "HAHA, YES. SILLY ME." Panel 4 It continues, now turning towards the reader, it's eyes narrowing and turning orange "THE BOOK IS FICTIONAL." Panel 5 The robot now stares directly at the reader with its cold red eyes "ENTIRELY FICTIONAL."

Panel 1: A man finds a ghost reading a book and says "I thought you’d died?". The ghost replies "My Life has ended but I cannot pass over to the spirit realm when so much remains undone." Panel 2: The man says "You mean all those books you bought and never got around to reading?". The ghost turns to look at bookshelves piled high with books and says "It won’t take long. There are fewer distractions when you’re dead." Panel 3: A few months later... The man says "Is it me, or are the piles getting bigger?" (there are indeed more books than previously) "My Library card still works!" says the Ghost happily "But once I’ve read these I’ll start on the ones in the attic."

Narration: Twelve moons ago, Alaryk of Mélia entered the Black Keep of Tharth, armed with the Osmium sword of the Sarcolites. In this, the ninth novel of the Stormrealm cycle, he will finally confront his nemesis, Xonot the Deathgiver. The peoples of the Ancient Kingdoms wait for a victor to emerge, but the obsidian door of the tower remains sealed. Images: a knight charges into an enormous tower and confronts a huge, axe-wielding, horned-helmeted, foe. Narration continues: Alaryk and Xonot have, in fact been lured away to co-host a podcast. Image: the two knights sit at microphones in a studio, behind them, a sign reads “The rest is Fantasy”. Xonot is saying “Don’t forget guys: Join the “Guild of Companions” to get early access to all our content.
