“On a million hillsides the girl ran, on a million bridges the girl chose, on a million paths the woman stood...
All different, all one.
All she could do for all of them was be herself, here and now, as hard as she could.”

It was humid enough this summer that most of my cast iron rusted.
Seasoning day is a good way to burn off some frustration lol

All hail the Fat Bear King!
32 Chunk takes the prize with his "post office size" shape. And he did it with a broken jaw.
I am not sure he would have survived if it were a fierce food compete year, grateful for the bounty of nature.

Congratulations, Chunk! You deserve it! Fat Bear Champ!

She's one of my all time favorite bears, and the only bear that is a verb. Grazer is HUGE this year...
Today was a tough vote.

Reigning champ Grazer and 909 are two bodacious bears, but only one can crack on to the next round.

It is only proper to post a tribute to Otis, the gateway fat bear for many.
I have a magnet of him on my fridge to remind me of what resilience, boundaries and patience look like.
He was witnessed eating 42 salmon in one sittting!
All hail the forever King.

We all have a thirst for wonder. It's a deeply human quality. Science and religion are both bound up with it. What I'm saying is, you don't have to make stories up, you don't have to exaggerate. There's wonder and awe enough in the real world. Nature's a lot better at inventing wonders than we are.

Fat Bear Week begins!

Vote Floatis/The Floatato!

-Hasn't caused any problems (that we know of)
-Exhibits the perfect lightbulb shape
-Sleeps it off in the river
-Has a flair for modeling his chonky bear belly (Possibly NSFW)

A proper villa vibe. Is this chunky legend floating into Fat Bear Week?

The ultimate bracket reveal goes live today at 4 pm PT. Don’t miss it.

They are coming for public lands again. Please take a moment to voice your protest. And please...vote these clowns out of office at every opportunity.

The number of bears flat out falling asleep in the river this year is heart warming and hilarious. There is so much food they don't have to compete..it has been non stop play and snoozing after the feasting.

The cutest couple in Katmai got a close up in the camp today. My heart so wants to go see them in person. They were playing bitey face in the river all day yesterday

Walking back to camp. The building is the VC. Saw these bears coming up from the beach so I went inside the electric fence picnic area.

1of4 times today bears came down the path right past me. The other times I was not behind a fence!

There is much going on to cause worry..but to quote Dr. Malcom from Jurrassic Park..life always finds a way.
Taking comfort in watching Biggie napping by the river, watched over by momma Grazer.
