I've been on holiday to the marvellous île d'Oleron, thereby prolonging summer by a couple of days
Now I'm back.
But it's good to know such a place is only three hours away

The terrier in a usual haunt, sniffing smells of hunters and their dogs.
Odd that my dogs hate hunters but linger lovingly over their traces

Oh, you like to support small businesses? Did you know that every author is a small business? You can support us by buying our books and/or talking about our books. It's that simple. Thanks!

The medlars in my garden are ready to be picked... do I have enough to make jelly?
I read a top tip *cough* elsewhere - if you freeze them it's a short cut to bletting.

Max the terrier, who hates water, actually went for a paddle here. The only other time I've seen him get his paws wet was when he mistook thick duckweed for greensward and stepped off a (very low) bridge. He swims really well, it transpired.

Autumnal comfort food: white beans (mogettes de Vendée) in home-made chicken stock with nettles (they're shooting enthusiastically in my garden). The slow cooker keeps the house warm, too

It is really hard being a writer these days. The industry is getting tougher all the time. You can REALLY help authors and books you love by talking about them. Word of mouth is real magic, your voice matters, it's never too small. Share your enthusiasm for books you love. And THANK YOU.
