Tawny #Frogmouths are #Australian nocturnal #birds that are often mistaken for owls. Although common, they are very well camouflaged, and this is the first time I've seen one in the wild. These two are a breeding pair.

These pocket sized performers are only 11-13cm long and weigh about 10 grams. They're accomplished travellers, flying from #Tasmania to the mainland (about 250km!) A massive distance for such a tiny #birb. This photo was taken in the tree adjacent my yard, welcome neighbour! :)

Im moving house tomorrow, will really miss my little feathered friends and worry about Hoppy because it has been a harsh winter so far. Got some boxes of seed that I'll give to neighbours in the hope they might continue to feed them.

#CrimsonRosellas don’t just rely on their flashy feathers, they actually sniff each other out! Each bird has a signature scent (akin to an old jumper doused in cheap perfume) that helps them spot friends and family. “Eau de parrot” anyone?
