SPAIN: experienced, well known & loved artist at home; with a very strong voice & a powerful, larger than life, stage presence. However I am in the camp that sees the song as dated & uninspiring, with a misguidedly OTT staging.

BELGIUM: the illegitimate child of Silvester Belt and Nemo (conceived at Malmö’s Euroclub?). I enjoy the industrial techno beats but the live vocals (the falsetto) don’t always convince me. I have the impression that I should like it a lot more than I do. But not bad.

SLOVENIA: I have mixed feelings. The song starts as a bland run-of-the-mill ballad (with explicit lyrics about a very upsetting topic) but it grows. The singer knows how to sell the song - especially when he uses the gimmick of singing it upside down.

Greece: this ethereal ethnic ballad is very pleasant and Klavdia has a beautiful, stable, voice. A Nana Mouskouri for the XXI century. But it does not work for me. It does not move me. A bit of an anticlimax after my enthusiasm with Zari last year.

Luxembourg: the nods to ESCs of yore are more than explicit. Maybe not as bouncy & catchy as the francophone tunes that inspire it and also not terribly edgy or contemporary. But very pleasant, very enjoyable. Puts a smile in my face. Fantastique!
