Yes, this administration is dangerous and cruel, but they are also shockingly dim and incompetent.

Opportunities are everywhere.

Make everything as hard as possible. Resist every demand. Refuse entry without a warrant. Don’t take the buyout. Their problem solving skills are 📉

WASHINGTON (AP) — Federal judge temporarily blocks Trump administration freeze on federal grants and loans.

NEW: I am asking the Trump Administration to immediately reconsider actions aimed at unilaterally forcing all federal agencies to stop nearly all federal assistance and grant and loan funding that support kids, families, and communities in Wisconsin and across our country.

To put the OMB grant freeze in context, roughly 17.5% of Wisconsin’s revenue comes from federal grants in aid last I checked. Overall, federal grants account for roughly 36% of all state government budgets in US. In a number of states the federal share is even higher.

If you run a university research lab please reach out to your folks today to explain any impacts the OMB grant pause memo will have on them, both short-term (will they get paid next week) and medium-term. Communication with your folks is important even if you're still figuring out the details.

This freeze on federal grant funds is giving me cheat pain. All of my grants but one rely on federal funds in one way or another. I know it could be worse, but damn. My entire research agenda is focused on disparities and equity. I worked my whole life for this.

I'm hearing through colleagues that this is the source of the NIH study section cancellations. From the link - need for contracts/grants to agree to comply with the "anti-discrimination" laws and having terms to certify they do not operate programs promoting DEI.

The horrifying implications of today’s Supreme Court argument on trans rights
The Court appears likely to uphold bans on gender-affirming care, and may gut the rules barring all forms of sex discrimination in the process.
