I hope you’re all enjoying this descent into madness.

The important thing to remember is what while I can’t sing, neither can eels, so this little jingle is very scientifically accurate.

So please. Get an eel facts advent calendar. You don’t have to wait until Christmas for eels. EelFacts.Net

Apparently my athlete brother had to full-body-wrestle Tinsel to get her to take her daily meds while I was gone. He assumed I was also wresting her. He just watched me give her a smooch & painlessly gave her meds & he was like “You’re JOKING”. Didn’t realize she wasn’t making it easy for everyone 😅

There’s a little kid here at the spelling bee who looks like 7 year old Beavis it is taking me out. He looks exactly like Beavis, I’m dying.

Alright enough of THAT, it's time to go work a Spelling Bee.

And I state again...WE NEED A SEPARATE ARTISTS ALLEY (like the ones at anime/sci-fi cons) AT SCIENCE CONFERENCES. LET ME BUY PLUSHIES AND COOL PRINTS FFS.
I suspect people don’t know that most scientific conferences charge many thousands of dollars to set up a sales booth, which is why the vending areas are full of boring corporate bullshit and none of the fun wacky artists you’d actually want to see there.

With current pledges, the world's on track for 2.6°C of warming in 2100 compared to preindustrial levels.

10 years ago, before the Paris agreement, it was 3.6°C

20+ years ago, we thought it would be 4-5°C

So 2.6°C is better, but the problem is that climate impacts are way worse than we predicted.
World still on track for catastrophic 2.6C temperature rise, report finds
Fossil fuel emissions have hit a record high while many nations have done too little to avert deadly global heating

One of my best friends insists nobody listens to Sleep Token, and that the singer of Sleep Token sounds like Ed Sheeran, which... how...dare...h- well, anyway. This week we have met a string of women, all of whom love Sleep Token. The ladies understand. We understand.

I get that some people never liked the person who ends up being outed as abusive—but saying so often feels dismissive of those who genuinely loved their work or who they seemed to be.
Here's a thing that I despise: When someone is outed as an abuser, TERF, terrible human, and ppl start going "I never liked them anyway" "I never found them funny" "They never wrote good things to begin with" and seriously shut the hell up. All of that is just to position you are superior and (cont)

Wow my brain is absolutely exhausted from that in a good way. Love an activity that makes it completely impossible to have any other thoughts in my head.
First drum lesson tonight. Haven’t taken a music lesson in uhhh… 20 years?? Looking forward to sucking at this.

No no it’s good that we have winter I’m happy that it’s cold. If I was wearing shorts right now that would be bad because, you know, climate change. I’m always talking about stopping climate change, of course, so I’m pleased that I’m frozen.

I've gotten 3 honks for squid this week, despite it being cold and overcast. This bodes well for the spirit of Philadelphia.

Like clockwork, on my annual battle with the winter, in which I try to hold off on turning on the heat until as long as possible, when I finally go "FINE that's IT I can't TAKE it anymore" I look at the thermostat and it's 58 degrees. Literally 3 years in a row, 58 degrees is when I give up.

We have matched ~650 groups with archaeologists this semester! I am so grateful to the 196 Archaeologist volunteers!

We have 60 unmatched groups rn

It's a dark time for artists. Many are struggling!

It's easy to buy gifts online. When you buy from *artists*, you're supporting working people, instead of making rich jerks richer.

This fall, send your present $$ to an artist's shop!

Whimsical egg sacs
Diminutive fairy wombat poop. Tiny cubes under 2mm on each side.

These are egg sacs made by a spider in the family Theridiosomatidae.

They made yesterday’s hike special. Finding something I’ve never seen before is such a thrill.

Made a zine tonight about how to help feed people with food insecurity , and my art was terrible, but fortunately the event was Bad Art For Good so it kept with the theme. I like my little zine! Might make it look nicer and actually pass some out
Was going to make a poster tonight but this inspired me to try my hand at a zine

Lots of great art and conversations tonight at Bad Art for Good (and the cheese donation? hell yeah Perrystead Dairy)!

I got started on a tree-focused zine but unfortunately the jet lag is still hitting me like a bag of bricks at 8pm every night so I didn’t finish it. I’ll continue later!
