That's it, I'm gettin me mallet (3rd system I've tried and failed on)

Istg I'm gonna lose it if I run into another hardware dependency issue after days of trying to get my homework to run on my computers. I'm one CUDA/PyTorch compatibility error away from throwing this system out a 3rd story window.

Small added context to the bearing failure (that still isn't fixed). It was cooked cooked by the time it blew the seal. I'm surprised none of the other bearings in the rear end ate it with how much metal it shed. Looked like someone dumped a tube of big glitter in there 💀

Wheel bearings took a piss and shredded the seals. I have no idea how I managed to drive 400 miles like that, but I'm still mad I have to replace them again.

Even if it's free, I don't need a 44" printer to try fixing so I can print whatever I want on shower curtains and the like. But, it would be cool as fuck and save the shame of being judged by the print shop for ordering a big ole pinup. But I have nowhere to put it...

Good motivation to get to my 4 hour lab at 8am on time: every day I do this, the closer I get to having bags so dark I'm just my sona.

Car drives pretty good engine wise. Transmission leaves something to be desired, but that's what I get for not rebuilding it. Dumb thing is the power steering box leaks because I didn't fix the brake master cylinder leak two years ago, and brake fluid really hates rubber seals.
August 22, 2025 at 8:53 PM
Oh yeah, motor and transmission are in the car, and it drives ish. It was a whole thing, and I may or may not have dropped the rad into the fan, but hey, it works and didn't explode. It's having some weird idle stuff, but after I stuck the power valve in my mouth, it seems to be feeling better.
August 19, 2025 at 1:26 AM
The transmission pan is still leaking even after hammering the dents out of the edge. I'm gonna tweak it down a little more, but I'll start tweaking if i have to pull the pan again.
August 19, 2025 at 12:56 AM
Two weeks staring at this and I've barely done anything. Tomorrow should be the day I drop the motor back in and break in the new cam. If it doesn't explode (knock on wood), I'll get to decide if I want to rebuild the transmission too, or just suck it up so I can get it driving faster.

This makes me very not excited to graduate knowing the market is still this bad even for people with high grades. Doesn't help all the nuclear power plants I looked at are only hiring senior engineers/operators with 7+ years experience.
If anyone knows of any engineering jobs in the Seattle Area that are looking for someone with a Mechanical Engineering Degree with Honors...

Hit me up, I'm still looking for work.

The folks who make these tools are the best because they put in the time and effort to make them. Also because they're sometimes so silly you gotta take a sec to laugh yourself sore. I just about died when this loaded. This masterpiece was made by fohdeesha for crossflashing Dell raid cards.

My one buddy is asking what I'm doing with my servers, and it's always some shit like this. Istg I'm gonna do something productive with them, I just have to get better at doing my school work on time.
February 9, 2025 at 3:30 AM
I spent 4 days trying to update the bios on one of my servers, only for it to end with doing something completely different that worked. But of course, not before the bios corrupted and a whole bunch of shenanigans went down because i did that different thing.

I love how I see things like springs and look at them like they committed a war crime. "I know what you do and how." Then I get my machine design textbook out and pull spring design equations, wasting 4 hours when all that happened was i saw a cool squishy spring.

After about 7 months of work, I finally have something that looks like an engine. The intake and carb are just sitting there, I didn't have time to clean the insanely grimy bolts before I needed to leave. I'll probably paint the block before it goes on the car so it looks less weird.
January 2, 2025 at 1:31 PM
The engine isn't 100% done, but the odd bank is cleaned and ready for final assembly tomorrow morning. I should also get the intake installed tomorrow so it should be fancy
January 1, 2025 at 7:49 AM
Ah yes, there is half an engine here now. Got the even bank its lifters, pushrods, and new roller rockers in last night. I even got to bed at a reasonable time.
December 31, 2024 at 7:36 PM
It has an oil pan now and will have one cylinder head tonight. Maybe two if I can motivate myself to do the valves on the other tonight.

What's about to happen to me over the next twelve days brings to mind the quote, "writing checks your body can't cash." Don't remember who said it but yeah, I've bitten off more than I can chew, and the revolving door of life is about to make sure I don't forget this lesson.

It's so fun how porn bots are a universal constant now in social media. Granted, it only started ~3 weeks ago for me and isn't nearly as bad as twitter. Sucks you can't have a public service free of bots, but it is what it is.
