It was a nice winter morning, a bit chilly, but dry and bright, for our walking & foraging group.

Baz Warne writes about the albums, the gigs, the shenanigans of his 25 years as guitarist, singer and songwriter in The Stranglers, my favourite band.

My own wee tribute to Jimmy Cliff after hearing the news today that he has died.

This is a 2018 reissue of the 1972 soundtrack album, The Harder They Come

Scotland have qualified for the World Cup for the first time since 1998.

A lot of people on here won't care about that, but last night was unforgettable.

I'm going to watch the game again on iPlayer

The first British punk album, the first album on the legendary Stiif labek, SEEZ 1, Damned Damned Damned by The Damned.

Even the sleeve picture was shocking back in 1977.

Remember how amazingly mind-blowing this sounded back in the 70s?

It still sounds great, Ramones 1976 debut.

The longest song is 2m 35s, six of the 14 tracks are under 2 minutes long.

I've just enjoyed a very pleasant evening at Port of Leith Distillery. We tasted this year's new make spirit, two one year old spirits and a grain 'table whisky'. Slàinte!

Continuing with Buzzcocks, this is a double album recorded live at The Forum, London, 2 December 2006. It seems to be marking the band's 30th anniversary. 1000 copies released by Cherry Records in 2020.

The latest iteration of Buzzcocks without the late Pete Shelley, (who supported The Stranglers on their recent tour), are a shadow of the blistering original band. So I'm treating myself to a couple of early albums.

Wild Fictions is a collection of articles & correspondence Amitav Ghosh has written in the past 25 years on Environment; colonialism/Empire; The Enlightenment & its contradictions; and reflections on the Indian Ocean Tsunami & the 9/11 al-Qaeda attacks.

A fascinating anthology!

Another great show by my favourite band, The Stranglers, in Edinburgh last night. With a 51 year career & 18 studio albums we had classic tracks, hits some less familiar material - that was the first time I'd heard them play Mean To Me live

All that remains of Jimmy Boyle's 100 ft monumental sculpture, the ‘Gentle Giant that Shares and Cares’, once the largest concrete sculpture in Europe, is one of the feet. Created in 1976, by the early 2000s it had fallen into disrepair & almost all of it was dismantled leaving this strange relic.

Pork chops for Sunday dinner? This is a River Cottage recipe (from Three Good Things), pork chops with roast potatoes & apple. I served it with a handful of wilted leaves from our veggie box. Lovely!

We've had our Sunday dinner (pork chops with roast potatoes & apple), now chilling with a glass of Rioja and listening (again) to Dreamviewer, Kirsten Adamson's new album. It's a deeply personal record & she's really found her voice.
