I love how the New York Times, which ran more than five dozen articles on Gay and almost single handedly maintained the drumbeat for her resignation, switches into Neutral Observer Mode here.

My k key is only kind of working. Like obviously it's working if I pay attention to it (as you can see from all the uses of K in this tweet) but if I'm typing quickly without focusing on it, half the words that should have a k in them simply have no k.

This is an almost new laptop. V annoying.

Some years back I asked a state legislator I was friends with how to identify the bills I actually have to worry about vs. the total bullshit bills that some dipshit legislator just introduces every single year and won't go anywhere. He gave me some tips I will share with you. (Thread.)
oh hey all:

it's january in an election year.

Be prepared for the onslaught of absolutely nonsense bills from both state and congressional reps. Reminder that *introducing* a bill does not mean it will actually become law. Doom is not inevitable.

As Covid rises again, killing about 1,500 Americans each week, researchers are trying to understand why so few high-risk patients are taking Paxlovid, a medicine that is stunningly effective in preventing severe illness and death from the disease.
Paxlovid Cuts Covid Death Risk. But Those Who Need It Are Not Taking It.
With Covid deaths rising to about 1,500 per week, researchers question why Paxlovid use has remained low among high-risk patients.

It's been six years since Steve Bannon's advisory on how to neutralize journalists: "Flood the zone with shit."

Learning what that means, how it works, is now basic to newsroom competence.

Six years! Which is to say, things like this this should not be happening.

Maybe a long shot, but does anyone in the Bay area have a working vintage 1999 Big Mouth Billy Bass they'd be willing to sell me so I can dismantle it and from its ashes bring forth something terrible?

It’s very difficult for most people to leave within a single year. Check back in five years. A higher Ed publication should understand the academic job market just a bit better.

Are professors really fleeing universities in red states?
Some academics have publicly announced resignations, but evidence of a mass faculty exodus from states like Florida is thin, at least so far. Media hyped a brain drain regardless.

I have not seen posts from Harvard faculty weighing in on Claudine Gay so for what it is worth, here is one faculty opinion. I have been a professor here since 1986. She was, by far, the very best dean of Arts and Sciences we have ever had. She was fair, collaborative and yet decisive. 1/n
