Witch, pagan, tarot reader, and author of books about inclusive spiritual practice. Quite queer. || she/they
[Repost from Instagram] I find these seasonal rituals very grounding, especially when life feels chaotic.

This is the best Beowulf translation. I will hear no arguments. This used copy has been with me since university and has been lovingly carried along ever since.

And for a more adult take on the Poetic Edda, I like this translation. Bonus points for a pretty cover.

This one has a special place in my heart because it was my introduction to the gods I now worship, but it's also a pretty great "Eddas for kids" book. When my siblings started having kids, I bought a copy to read to the young 'uns.

THE book on the Fair Folk as far as I'm concerned. Daimler does great research and is rightfully one of the authors I recommend most often.

Hello Bluesky, I've been sick for like a week and a half, but I'm back. Have a photo of my cat "helping" with a sewing project.

Like a lot of folks, I'm freaking the fuck out right now. And while no book is going to fix that, I'm revisiting this favorite to brush up on tools to help me take care of myself while the world feels like it's on fire.

The longer I've been pagan, the more I find meaning in small, simple rituals. The first and last tortilla of the batch go to Vesta. Just because.

Queer witches have always been here, and we're not going anywhere.

More of an academic resource, but this one is great. I originally read it as part of a project to better understand the different indigenous, African, and European sources that influenced the folk magic tradition I practice. #witchsky #folkmagic #folklore #southernwitch

I can wholeheartedly recommend both of these Rebecca Beyer books. Wonderful collections of folk magic and lore with beautiful illustrations. 10/10. #witchsky #folkmagic #Appalachia #appalachian

Speaking of, this one is a newer book by the same author. I haven't read it yet, but when I do I'll let y'all know how Alvarado handles race and gender in the 2020s. Love this cover though! #witchsky #folkmagic #folklore

This cover is cheesy but this is genuinely a very thorough introduction to New Orleans folk magic. Contains some transphobic language but was also written like 20 years ago, so I need to read some of Alvarado's newer stuff to see if it's a case of genuine hate or just not knowing better. #witchsky

We're getting into my Southern folk magic collection now. I really liked this one until I learned that the author is a TERF. Don't buy this book. There are other authors who do #appalachianwitchcraft justice without being hateful. (Follow this thread for recs) #witchsky #folkmagic #folkwitch

My #ASOIAF books also live on my spirituality bookshelf because I haven't found a place for them on my fiction shelf yet. These are the only two I have because I decided to read the series in chronological order since 1. I'm unwell, and 2. GRRM is never gonna finish the main series anyway lmao

This one was a holiday gift so I haven't really dug into it yet. I'm hoping some of this will be applicable to my work with Vesta and other household spirits. #witchsky #pagansky

THE best tarot book. I said what I said. Snow's insights are so wonderful and I love how inclusive their work is. A favorite. #witchsky #tarot #queer

I really like all of Lisa Marie Basile's work that I've read, but I have a terrible habit of lending out books I like so this is the only one I still have. Great for witchy writers, and fairly accessible/budget friendly. I do recommend this one. #witchsky

Scott Cunningham was so incredibly impactful I don't think you can engage with modern witchcraft without touching on his work. His stuff is a little dated, but I have a soft spot for it. I use the encyclopedia a lot to this day. #witchsky

The classic neopagan witchcraft book that holds up best in my opinion. Love Starhawk. Love this book. Absolutely ahead of its time and brimming with insights. I still learn something new every time I read it. #witchsky #reclaimingwitch

This one was genuinely lifechanging for me in college, but I have no idea if it would hold up if I were to read it today. The main reason I haven't donated it is because of how important it was to 19 y/o recently-left-the-Mormon-church Sam. I'm realizing now it's really hard to photograph gold foil.

These I'm mostly holding onto for historic preservation reasons. I bought these for research for one of my books, and they were expensive because they're out of print. Interesting look at the evolution of Wiccan theology, but definitely dated and have some issues. #witchsky

For the longest time, this was the only book on Freyja's modern worship I could find in English. Got the paperback because there isn't an ebook. It's fine, but I prefer Morgan Daimler's recent book on Freyja. #heathensky #pagansky #freyja

Another banger. I originally borrowed this one but I liked it so much I bought a paperback. A must-read for Heathen witches and seiðworkers. I need to reread it soon. #heathensky #pagansky

This one was recommended by a friend who practices Voudou and is absolutely fantastic. A great intro to African American spirituality and to New Orleans traditions and superstitions. This copy is special to me because I carried it around on my last trip to NOLA with my partners. #witchsky
