Quelle surprise. Alberta doctors say evidence doesn't support mandatory addiction treatment and they weren't consulted.
The Compassionate Intervention Act presents challenges to doctors and patients. Mandatory addiction treatment has risks and implementing this bill calls for a balanced, rights-based approach. We are committed to working with government to inform this bill. www.albertadoctors.org/news/publica...

The Americans need to learn from us Canadians. We understand how an Opposition has to hammer away at a majority with focus, discipline how to mobilize our electeds on individual issues in service of an overarching message and goal, and how to mobilize the public to get the govt to back down.
Murphy: "We need to act like a real opposition party in the middle of a constitutional and democracy crisis. That means we should not be moving forward nominees or legislation in the Senate. Ds should not be giving votes to nominee or legislation in the Senate until Rs get serious about this crisis"

It's all an open attempt to shatter what's left of the public and sell it for parts.

Unfortunately we are a half century into this counter-revolution, and all our collective institutions are so diminished that we don't feel strong or organized enough to fight them.

But fight them we must.

If you have a smidge of power and you catch yourself thinking:

Maybe we'll be safe if we:
- tone this justice program a bit
- take that 'decolonization' reference off the website
- nix that grant for decarbonization...

know that you are playing your part in Trump's game perfectly.

Incredibly thorough scoop here from the great @laurby.bsky.social: "Top brass at the Edmonton Police Service want Alberta’s government to disqualify two people selected to oversee its actions in large part because of their public criticism or comments around policing issues."
Edmonton police asked Alberta to intervene after city council appointed two commissioners. Documents show past criticism and allegations of 'bias' drove the request.
