Public/oral historian, working with community & placemaking in Belfast. Former projects inc. British Red Cross, Ionad na Fuiseogie, St Matthew's 150th, & Mid Ulster Council.

Currently researching & writing about postmemory & identity thru rugby league.
My project on the Mandurama Reds has received the Wes Smythe Award (from the Tom Brock Bequest) to further research the history of the village and rugby league team.

Lots of connections to labour union history, Irish migration, and rural life in this story

Got a tour of the Emirates and Arsenal Museum today, caught this reference to Glentoran. Hadn't realised that Arsenal travelled to play the Glens in September of 1969! The night before the match there were attacks on the RUC and churches burnt out!

Moves to London, #Belfast gets all the sun. Am I doomed to gloom forever?

Lovely day back running an Intro to Oral History workshop for QUB's Our Place; Our Stories.

Some heritage that needs saving on #heritagetreasures day:

Mountpottinger School, *I believe* the oldest purpose built public education building in East Belfast. Designed by Samuel Close and built in 1896.

Derelict today, leased to a furniture shop. Pictured with emoji.

A local history group has brought the most Australian green grocers to my attention.

Old Donegall Street Congregational Church. Anyone recognise these symbols? Lower appears to be St Patrick's Cross

No snow, just rainy in Belfast but the cat buried himself in the doona.

Totally acceptable to stay up until 03:30 to watch the Australia v India test when the cat's asleep on you, right?

Thrilled with this find! Cathal Byrne's "As I Roved Out", £15 at Keats & Chapman. Legendary book and bookshop in #Belfast.

A timely find as I plan to step back from EastSide Partnership and take on new heritage projects.

Are you working on something with oral history in Ulster? Get in touch!

Just Australia's Russell Hobbes British Film Festival excitedly and enthusiastically claiming Saoirse Ronan as British in their copy and audio adverts!

Finally took one of Jason Burke's First World War Historical Walking Tours around East Belfast. Great walk and greater stories from the Great War.
