...in that exact moment, and that no two in-person visits will be/are ever the same. But having said all that, the digital tours enable a level of exploration and engagement that I wish I'd been able to access at school! 🙂

...(anyone who's walked the railway line at Birkenau will know what I mean). I've been with different people who've all said "Oh, you can't appreciate the scale of it until you're actually here." And there's also something about the immediacy of a shared experience with other people...

It's definitely the immediacy, I think - online we're experiencing it through a screen, and so in one sense it's inherently immediate as we can get to anywhere in the camp within moments. However, in this way the site stays the 'same.' Also, there's something about the true sense of scale...

That's a great question! The one that immediately springs to mind are the digital tours of the camps, like @auschwitzmemorial.bsky.social and @dachaumemorial.bsky.social - mainly because they enable people to access the sites who otherwise might not be able to...
