queer feminist, homeschool survivor/apostate, 16-year-old me would be horrified
My MIL reminded me of the "liberal Christians just want their ears tickled" turn of phrase, and it occurred to me that I've felt more challenged ("convicted") by my UCC-trained lesbian minister in the last three years than I ever was in two decades of fundamentalism.

omg it happened

a rando accused my statement "homo sapiens evolved in Africa" of being a "religious belief" (we were not debating origins, so I was surprised)

I'm the Big Scary Evolutionist now

I'm so proud

The recent #Rapture nonsense has me reliving my Pre-Trib days and I'm cringing so hard at teenaged me

I stopped reading Left Behind because a book's cliffhanger was "This character either dies or accepts the Mark!" and Option A was too depressing and Option B was theologically heinous. So I quit. 🤣

Not a lawyer BUT I am an #exfundie so I didn't have to Google "plenary authority."

Silver lining to fundie theology being constructed largely by lawyers and preached by people who think using archaic terms makes them Very Correct, I suppose?

This will eternally be my favorite Christian doctrine Hot Take:

Jesus was trans.

If you believe in the Virgin Birth, then Jesus had no Y chromosome, yet lived and was treated as a man. He is a "man born with no penis" he tells his followers to accept and love in Matthew 19:11-12.

So some Southern Baptists want to address "willful childlessness" in their role as the morality police.

Interesting.

Yknow someone who was willfully childless?

Jesus.

Preface: I'm not a political scientist, legal expert, economist, or sociologist. These are just my observations and theories.

Growing up, my very conservative, very Republican family praised the Founding Fathers' wisdom in creating the "separation of powers."

Y'know the scam emails with bad grammar and typos are deliberate to weed out less gullible people?

so my partner is a fed worker. The OPM email today was a FAQ with "oh yeah we'll totally put all this in a contract! Just resign first!"

OPM is basically just a Nigerian prince right now

welp reading about bird flu transmission was a mistake and I regret everything

So you don't have to:

1) no more runny eggs
2) no bird feeders
3) call legislators and ask them to ban raw milk sales, it's the raw milk that's going to do us all in

Hey to the newbies and just one quick point of clarification so we all can find the right audience:

I want homeschooling to be regulated. Assessments (not necessarily testing), contact with mandatory reporters, etc.

Homeschooling law is often weaponized by abusers, and I want that to end.

You should've known this LAST YEAR IN AUGUST.

I was interviewed for this and I'm happy with it. However, the parent interviewed *laughed* at the very idea that some Michigan homeschool parents might be abusing their kids. "What parents? What parents?" she kept asking.

Ok, Amy. These parents. A Thread.

No one who's reasonable expects a child-- even a teenaged child-- to teach themselves everything they'll need for an open future.

All the "Parents' Bill of Rights" legislation storming state houses are the most shameless examples of a Nanny State I've ever seen.

These bills aren't written to protect parents, they're to help parents abandon their job to actually be parents.

Wanna know something odd about homeschool policy? While most states don't have anything in-statute about assessments, the ones that do stipulate "norms-referenced" tests.

Here's the thing about norms-referenced tests: no one legit uses them anymore because they're bad tests.

It's been a day and I can't get over this post that popped up in a local group I'm in.

I'm sorry. MA'AM. You don't have money, need to get a job, and you're looking for a private tutor+nanny to "homeschool"???

PUBLIC SCHOOL IS FREE. You live in an area with awesome schools!
