I think that local and state gov in my blue city & state matter even more now. I need Katie Wilson to run for mayor here in Seattle. Or someone with her grassroots organizing chops, record, and understanding of the legislative system here.

In all seriousness, the month after I started my tech job I was diagnosed with a chronic condition that requires me to take drugs which cost thousands of dollars each month. With my gold plated insurance this was basically free for me but it was radicalizing to realize many people don't have that.
I remember seeing Kshama signs often on the top floors of brand new apartment buildings and just thinking “man, how fucked does a system have to be for those people to be socialists”

I agree with Brett's overall point that our "centrists" suck, but in defense of my fellow tech workers we accounted for at least $60k of the contributions to the PAC supporting Katie which was crucial to getting her over the finish line. I'm very proud of orgs like @tech4housing.org stepping up.
Ppl have been warning for years that all the affluent tech bros moving into the city will ultimately change the demographics & push our politics to the right. But alas, that doesn't account for the fact that our "centrists" just really do suck that bad. They have no new ideas!

It freaking rocks that an incoming council member is cheering on @wilsonforseattle.bsky.social. It'd have been easy for @linforseattle.bsky.social to focus only on his own race in the hopes of avoiding Harrell's ire in case he won.

Ironically, here in Seattle USPS unreliability in postmarking lead to a larger percentage of ballots being placed in drop boxes which overwhelmed our elections office and means we still don't know who won the Mayor's race.

Learning that our gas company was required to disconnect our gas line for free was absolutely a joyful moment.
"Just warning you, it'll be $10k if you ever want to hook it up again" - thanks, but that's not going to be a problem.

One last thing, though: I cannot emphasize enough the joy and satisfaction I've gotten from every major step in the home decarbonization process. Maybe it's Type 2 fun, but the sense of agency and sticking it to fossil fuels despite their best efforts is priceless. Everybody deserves that privilege.

Bruce Harrell is a failed Mayor because he wastes expensive SPD resources on this rather than tackling our actual problems.
SPD out here on Northgate shutting down the taco stand between 8th and Roosevelt due to "multiple licensing and health code violations" that they wouldn't provide anymore info about.
