Why, you can practically see your house from there! Safe travels!!
I hereby award you a Gold Star for taking your meds! And another for doing the contact thing!
The Kid is in college now, but I read in his classrooms for 6 years and once, a few years after I stopped, I had a kid tell me that I was always the best part of his week and he was always happy to be in class with my Kid because of the stories (and the silly voices).

Read to your kids, folks!
I am old but...

Island of the Blue Dolphins spoke the the loneliness I felt as a kid. Then, decades later, I read it out loud to my Kid's 4th grade class and watched it hit one student in particular the same way it'd hit me.

It's not the only work to change me, but it was one of the first.
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"
Oh yeah, back when you had to do everything by hand!! Gosh, I remember those days!!
I was one of 4 people in photography club in high school in the early 90s, where we still had a darkroom! And I used it!!! Like, does ANYONE still have a darkroom??

*iz so old*
It was a VERY American war. No one said it wasn't!!

*stares in Bush*
Not gonna lie, it's a big reason why I answer the phone in French.

Which is not that good.

Basically, I'm doing Miss Piggy and I'm doing her proud!!
That was her brand of feminism--Dolly Madison was going to be remembered, by God! She was a brave, fearless, proud First Lady! One of the Best! REMEMBER HER NAME!!!!!

Because in the 60s? Not too many people did!
My mom, the MO State History Teacher of the Year? When she talks about the War of 1812, she's MUCH more likely to talk about Dolly Madison. Big Dolly fan, my mom. Made it part of her life's goal over her career (1965-1998+) to make sure everyone knew about Dolly Madison saving the portraits!
It is, regrettably, the American Way!

I will say that, when we took The Kid to Jackson's home in TN, they were unflinching on his slavery positions. No holds barred, slavery Very Very Damn Bad. Less so on his Native racism, but...we were on a plantation sooooo...
Reminder!

If you get a robo call and it says, "You asked me to call you back, remember?" in a quick, friendly voice...

DO NOT SAY NOTHING! They're trying to get your voice for AI spoofing! Silence is your friend!
Oh but we "won" that war, didn'tcha hear? Good ol' Andy Jackson "won" it for us! That's how that racist, violent scumbag got to be president, b/c he was killing the Brits down in New Orleans weeks after the war had officially ended!!

WE R WINNERS *shouts loudly to drown out all this Canada talk*

For me? Hand-dyed yarn ones! And ALL THE TEAS.

For the Mr., there was a whiskey one that was, like, $500 or something? Wild!

BUT! I take this moment to remind you that you can, and should! get an extra little calendar of fun stuff for Jan. or as a rewards to open when you hit word count or ???
everything is bonkers right now and we need a timeline cleanse. let’s play a game. if I handed you a blank check but you could ONLY spend it on an Advent calendar, what absurdly pricy collection of little treats are you buying yourself?
Thank you. This is the exact amount of ridiculousness I needed right now. I mean, HONESTLY.

I also do not eat fast food and not terribly long ago, on a road trip, I tried to go INTO a mcdonalds and order fries.

There were no people in there anymore? Just a screen? It was WEIRD and I did not like.
