Working on my old kitchen, I just removed the circa 1950's stove hood vent. Fan did not work but light did. There was a fire over 30 years ago, post hood vent install, and nobody had changed the filter! Full of soot! Seriously! Why? How? Probably wondered for years why it no longer functioned🙁

Greenhouse roof panels are up!! and with two screws to spare 😁 For somebody who used to jump out of planes for fun one would think I would be way less wobbly up a ladder.
September 26, 2025 at 3:38 PM
Back on the roof install this morning but I built a work bench right where I need to put the ladder. Duh. It is full of wood and heavy and I'm not up to moving it all. I am also running out of screws so am done for the day. This is a not so fun part of the greenhouse build. Another 86 degree day :(🌱

Got half the greenhouse roof on yesterday. I tried this morning to do the other half but am not functioning well enough for this 68 year old to be up a ladder. Watched too many tv shows where old ladies fall off ladders so am erring on the side of caution. 86 today in Montana! In September!! Yikes 🌱

I did get around to mowing my scraggly grass the other day without incident 😁 but now a neighbors dog decided it is his favorite bathroom spot (twice a day, seriously !!!) at least the owner picks up the poop. I think it is karma for not mowing lol

Yesterday I dropped a board on my toe and a drill on my hand so gave up on the greenhouse build, switched to the kitchen remodel where I promptly drilled right through an electrical wire so I gave up. Today I knocked my large kitchen knife off the counter but it didn't stab my foot. Better day :)

Still haven't mowed my scraggly grass because it is not growing in the heat. Neighbors watered, mowed, pampered, perfect lawn is suddenly almost as long as mine. Think maybe there is a life lesson in there somewhere. Looking forward to no more lawn next year! 🌱

I live on a side street flanked by larger homes with perfect lawns. I am old with a bad back so planning on no lawn eventually, just ground covers and flowers. I need to mow my current sad, patchy grass but the evil part of me lets it get just a bit scraggly to piss off all the perfect lawns guys.🌱

Found a baby, cold hardy, dwarf peach tree at 50% off today! Baby peach is going to be an espalier along the back wall of the greenhouse I am building so it will have winter protection and I am making the windows removable for the summers. Building the greenhouse is so much fun!🌱

I am starting one indoor and one outdoor project this month. Full kitchen upgrade from scratch (eek!) and a greenhouse!!! Also from scratch. Picked up the first batch of lumber for that yesterday, so excited! 8 x 12 ft, wood frame, removable side windows, back friendly, so excited!🌱

Hit the soil amendment jackpot that may help my worm issue. New house has an overgrown 20ft tall "hedge" that I tackled this week. Underneath are years of accumulated leaf mold! Going to rake it out and put on the new garden beds.

I just moved and am prepping new garden beds ready for next year. There is a complete lack of any visible life, not a worm or bug in sight. I will add what organic matter I can as I do not want to buy in soil, just build it up over time. Will the worms just come on their own? 🌱

Finally! I picked up my embroidery this afternoon. I have sold a house, bought a house, moved quite a distance. I have been doing nothing else for over six months. But today, after some time in my new garden with new baby plants, I picked up my embroidery. I feel like I am settled, finally.

Tomorrow I head out from my house in zone 8b to my new one in zone 4a. It is going to be an interesting gardening adjustment, but I do get two spring seasons this year.

I hard pruned all my roses in the fall and was so happy to see new shoots just starting to peak through. Maybe I did not kill them after all? 🌱

I had suffered brain fog for quite a few years. Today I'm packing up for a move, and came across a file that contained design samples for an idea I have had for years. I do not remember making any of them! Hours and hours of fine needlework! Brain fog is so debilitating. it steals so much of life.

Got my first daffodil in the garden today, yay!

I am clearing things ready to move come spring. That involves my wood stash and some 115 year old tongue & groove. I decided to clean it up, remove nails etc. There are small patches of old wallpaper stuck fast and I wonder about the previous woman who chose it. She had good taste.

I have a huge batch of my favorite veggie, cheese and ham soup cooking on the stove. Who needs eggs!
December 22, 2024 at 5:35 PM
Yesterday I got an almost 8 lb ham for $6.94 and 2 lbs of cheese for $4.99, all cheaper than a dozen eggs at $6.99. I give up . I have always been an egg eater, always taken them for granted, although I grew up on war stories about 1 egg per week rations. I am allowing myself 4 eggs per week, max.
December 22, 2024 at 5:34 PM
Friday I got a large, two topping pizza from LC, cooked and ready in less than 10 minutes, because it was on sale for $5.99.
Saturday I got a dozen basic eggs for $5.99, the cheapest they had.

Wreath base from a willow that was in my garden, decorated pine cones (reusable) from the park a few years ago. I found just enough pine branches blown off by Fridays wind while dog walking and made this, tied it all together with free jute twine. It is over my couch so I can smell pine smells.🌱

After looking, longingly, at real Christmas trees I have decided not to spend money on one and instead put
the funds towards my future greenhouse. I will get creative tomorrow and use what I already have. We shall see how it turns out 🌱 Should be enough greenery around here to create something.....

It is garbage day and the truck has squeaky brakes. It sounds like somebody is torturing a dragon, over and over.... It has been like that as long as I can remember.
