Hangover cure, cont'd: step 2, apply grease
Country sausage browning in a pan. Not sure what makes it "country," that's just what they call sausage not in a casing around here. White gravy with sausage lumps in a pan. This sauce is not recommended for heart health or weight loss. However, if correctly seasoned with peppers, it may repair a fragmented soul. The final pile of food on a plate: sourdough bread under sausage gravy, Hatch Valley green chilis and a fried egg. It looks lumpy and tastes delicious.

City Creek Canyon. Yesterday was my mother's birthday, the first one I've celebrated without her. I went up into some hills and ate buttermilk pancakes afterwards. It was a beautiful day.
X marks the spot! A marker painted on a paved road looks like an 'X.' In the background, a mountain, a tree with fall leaves and a garbage can all stand by. I'm disappointed that my life hasn't involved many treasure maps. But I did see some fish in the creek next to the road, which is a kind of treasure? Hardly one to where I could draw a map, though. A paved road curves through hills covered in golden grasses and bushes that have lost their leaves with Autumn. There were lots of chickadees and other birds flitting about the bushes. Above the scene is a cloudless sky with a deep blue color. A paved road curves around a corner with a looming mountain in the distance. There are stones and trees lining the road. This is the farthest up the City Creek Canyon road I've been, two-plus miles up and just past picnic site #15. A map said there are thirty picnic sites up there, I hope to walk to the end of the pavement, one day. The sun rises over a hillside, with autumn leaves on trees next to a dirt road cutting through some golden grass. The ground was cold in the shade until the sun came up. You could feel the difference in temperature from the heat of the desert sun reaching all the way to the bottom of the canyon, once its rays had burned away the overnight chill.

I delivered the last coffee for my Mom yesterday. You know it's serious when I bring poetry, too. She passed this morning. No more suffering. Alzheimer's is no fun.

Fluffy final biscuit result:

Biscuits! Substituted sour cream for buttermilk. Sourdough sour cream, sour squared. Also, listening to Deftones while baking. I'll post more carbcore pics once they're out of the oven. 🫦🎶🥣

But the trick to this recipe is to barely combine the ingredients so that the dough resembles more of a car crash than a cloud. Four biscuits rising on a cookie sheet. The clumps of butter in the dough make odd, yellow angles poking through. I've added some ground chili powder to the flour to give these biscuits some personality. The recipe said, don't overmix, and these lumpy balls of dough are barely assembled. But the output will be greater than the sum of its ingredients.

Well, pickles & beer led to an unsatisfactory sleep. So today I overcompensated by making breakfast burgers! (I don't always eat like this, just yesterday was a twelve-hour day with a triple digit high temp and food wasn't appetizing. So today I'm nomming before the hotness and walking 5 miles)

OK, it is 93 F° (34 C°) here, and tonight's dinner is rosemary mushrooms and onions on cheesy sourdough. An open-faced, frou-frou grilled cheese
