Something funny about the NDAA? It still calls the Department the Department of Defense and the Secretary the Defense Secretary. Trump and Hegseth didn't even try to get the name changed in a federal statute.

During ratification of the 14th Amendment, senators discussed whether the Citizenship Clause would apply to the children of immigrants and resoundingly concluded that it did. The text and history all point in one direction and the counter-arguments are patently fraudulent. I am going to lose my mind
The evidence is the text. All you have to do is read the Constitution.

Yeah, a House member needs to send up that impeachment flag. This is illegal, immoral, dangerous behavior — that is also likely unconstitutional as well.

Single issue voter here. And this is the issue.
“What’s your plan for the Court?” is the only question that matters for 2028 Democratic hopefuls, because if they don’t, the Republican Super Legislature is hatcheting their agenda before it can get off the ground.
#BREAKING: Over dissents from the three democratic appointees, #SCOTUS puts Texas's new House maps back into effect for (and, presumably, through) the 2026 midterms.

The three Democratic appointees, in an opinion by Justice Kagan, dissent.

I'll post the ruling shortly.

There’s also something especially crazy-making about SCOTUS’s “eagerness to playact a district court” (Kagan) in a *shadow docket* decision that doesn’t really engage with the facts at all. The gap between the professionalism of the district courts and SCOTUS’s arbitrariness couldn’t be more obvious
There are so many things wrong with this ruling, including the total disregard for the clear error standard. But what really gets me is the notion that legislatures can evade judicial review of their maps simply by passing them as close as possible to Election Day

The fact that a second strike like that in an armed conflict is definitely a war crime should not completely negate the fact that *there is no war* and ALL the strikes are cold-blooded murder. The whole chain of command are murderers.

Statehood for D.C. is an ethical obligation at this point, required to protect the rights of our residents to govern ourselves against such out-of-state troops being sent to patrol our city.
NEW: Republican-led states, in a new filing at the D.C. Circuit, say D.C. residents are irrelevant, D.C. belongs to everyone else. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

The filing is led by the South Carolina and West Virginia attorneys general. Both states sent troops to DC.

Now imagine if the train came every 7.5 minutes because we took four existing Metra lines, ran them half-hourly, coordinated their schedules, and connected them down the same corridor.

That’s CrossTowner regional rail.

And that’s why we need to #BuildTheTunnel.

“Strong floor, no ceiling” is absolutely the type of slogan that a focus group of swing voters will tell you they find appealing after it has been a whole hour and they just want to go home.

It’s a slogan for people convinced this country *really* wants a Mike Bloomberg presidential campaign.

"But actually he was granted asylum on YOUR watch" is neither a gotcha nor particularly helpful for the interests of justice. It infers both that there was something wrong with the grant (and I have seen no evidence of that) and that the Trump admin is being too generous with asylum generally (lol)
Trump refuses to directly admit his administration granted the DC shooter asylum and then wraps up the press availability

<overly technical> There are two sides of “public charge”. The ground of inadmissibility is that the immigrant is likely to become a public charge.

This raises two questions: (1) What is a “public charge”? (2) What factors determine whether someone is likely to become a public charge in the future?

The answer for every question in this city is to pay security people to stand around. Teens hanging out in the park? Put up a security line. Too many people going to the Christmas market? Put up a security line. Transit feel unsafe? Pay some guys to stand around and play candy crush.
The Christkindlmarkt thing is so funny top to bottom. America so starved for vibrant public spaces and events that this winter craft fair gets Disneyland-level regional demand, and this is seen as a problem to be solved with cops and security

Also, I’m just going to say it, if your objective is national security, I don’t think telling tens of thousands of combat-hardened veterans (and their many American brothers-in-arms) that you’re going to betray them and send them to die in their country, which you destabilized, is a great idea
Every time a US veteran snaps people fall all over each other to point out the effects of war and literal physical changes that PTSD triggers, but one Afghan veteran snaps and we’re going to shut down immigration for all Afghans forever and I bet they’re working on revoking parole wholesale
