One of the things I keep thinking about—even two months after ICA Mobile Preconference—is our workshop on digital disconnection policies. We had to think about kids’ education, ages, and contexts—and we kept circling back to the role of "teachers" who would actually deliver those policies!
Media literacy is often seen as a key solution to preparing people to navigate a complex media environment. But is it taught equitably? Our new article examines how an Illinois mandate requiring media literacy instruction is being implemented across schools. digitalcommons.uri.edu/jmle/vol17/i...

In this study, we examine the lived experiences of educators who engage with youth through media literacy education. While prior research has examined the efficacy of media literacy education interven...

My article examines Starlink’s expansion into one of the world’s largest telecommunications markets and calls for a shift away from techno-optimist hype toward a more grounded understanding of the legal and sovereign challenges posed by foreign control over the Indian airwaves.
In surrendering control of key communications infrastructure to a private, foreign corporation run by a billionaire who has challenged sovereign authorities in other democracies, a nation risks more than lost bandwidth, writes University of Calgary researcher Anurag.

I think there's not nearly enough focus on how gen AI bots are replacing writing. I am sure we are all noticing how AI writing is percolating into homework assignments, journal articles and reviews. Most of it is shallow, dull and un-insightful.

Summertime appeal to the skincare world: sun block needs to come in much much bigger bottles than 50ml (1.7 oz)!

This is a hot take. (get it 😅🫣)

Seeing the m-dash everywhere. In journal articles, reviews, tweets, reddit posts, new book... This can't be good.

That's the curious part! Why hasn't Word been supercharged yet? What with being partners with OpenAI and owning copilot...
thought i'd try out sending my paper through gpt for spellchecking/grammar/confusing phrases/etc.

1. it's good at it, not a huge surprise; better than Word
2. i thought i saw it incorrectly correcting me on a common phrase but it turns out i am wrong. TIL that it's "free rein" not "free reign"

We are truly in the end times of the Internet.
I can't express how much libgen and another platform (rhymes with shybub) helped me back in India during (and beyond) my masters program.
so these fuckboys will go after libgen if we use it, but they blatantly excuse it when they need to scrape data for their fucking AIs?
Holy shit this filing update is wild! It states that:

1. Zuckerberg gave the ok to train off copyrighted works

2. Engineers wrote scripts to remove copyright info

3. Meta downloaded illegal torrents to train models of

GenAi is a house of cards, I swear.

I'm genuinely curious -- who is asking to interact with AI profiles on social media? Who is the intended audience?!!
