I don't think we'll ever get another sentence which sums up everything the New York Times embodies quite like "Some legal experts have called it a crime to summarily kill civilians".
hey @nytimes.com: there is no counterpoint here. There are no credible legal experts who would EVER say that the US military has any right or authority to blow civilian craft out of the Caribbean and kill their crews from afar without any provocation. There is no other side to this question.

i genuinely dont understand why rich and powerful rulers always become obsessed with immortality as soon as they hit the last third of their lifespan. they're always certain that this time it'll work when it never has, it's an oddly specific common delusion among the ruling class

I've been trying to understand why this isn't generating as much fury as it should, and i think it's because there is a fundamental belief among many americans that the military can pretty much do whatever (which isn't entirely inaccurate.) that said, what the actual fuck.

I feel like anything about GDC 'rebranding/reinventing' itself cannot earnestly be discussed without addressing it continuing to be held in a country with a fascist regime that is indiscriminately targeting, jailing and disappearing foreigners.
