If we allow anyone to be punished or disappeared by the government for their speech, there will be nothing to stop it happening to any of us.

"If you give me six lines written by the hand of the most honest of men, I will find something in them which will hang him."

I had the opportunity to share a few thoughts in this video about sea level rise from Deutsche Welle's excellent Planet A series on YouTube.

Billionaires and corporations are the enemy. The idea of keeping the lower classes divided so they don’t unite against the ruling elite has been a fundamental strategy of power throughout recorded history. STOP LETTING IT WORK. We need to unite against them, not each other.

When I hear "drill baby drill", all I hear is: "I don't understand climate change, I don't care about wildlife or ecosystems, it's okay with me if whales die, I'm totally cool with destroying the habitat of deer, bears, wolves, birds, butterflies, and bees."

Congrats to @elianebrum.sumauma.com . Completely agree with her sentiments. I've been trying to get this idea through for a long time.

Imagine if we truly came to know this ourselves. Imagine if we came to understand ourselves, not as apart from nature observing it, but a part of nature, in fact, nature ourselves together with the rest of the living biome. Imagine the transformation- the awe, the coherence, and even the joy.

Important new study shows that current climate models underestimate the human-caused slowing of the #AMOC (Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation), because they neglect freshwater influx from Greenland melt and other sources. /1 🌊

Weakening of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation driven by subarctic freshening since the mid-twentieth century - Nature Geoscience
Fresh meltwater entering the Labrador and Irminger seas has resulted in a slowing of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation since the 1950s, according to a combination of modelling approaches...

Where does everyone think will be the most resilient to climate change and AMOC collapse in the coming decades? Which places are most insulated to the effects? In the U.S. and outside the U.S. I've been researching this but want to check what I could be missing.

For those of you in climate science who know Dr. Robert Corell, he had a birthday this week. Please join me in wishing him happy birthday, and I'll pass on the messages. It's been an honor working with him and learning from him. He's genuinely one of my favorite people on Earth to talk to.

How do we, in the climate science space, communicate the risk to the public? That's what we've been struggling with, and no one has been able to answer it.
