In 1984 when I was twelve I read Bright Lights, Big City and was BLOWN AWAY. I'd never seen 2nd person point of view before and was so, so, so excited that it was a possibility. Similar experience in the past 5 years when I read a collective point of view story for the first time.

performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

spoke with the executive director of my local food bank today and got this really incredible line: "if you donate 1 can of green beans, we can give away 1 can of green beans. but if you donate a dollar, we can give away 6 cans of green beans"

I'm usually good with understanding UK books published in the 1930s but this one befuddled me. I had to ask a British friend, who explained that the richies are so bored and so exhausted from spending money that they are placing bets on who is going to come downstairs next. GOOD LORD.

This looks really cool. Pre-ordering.
I spent over a year of my life writing this collaborative craft book with eleven other (fantastic! talented! good-looking!) writers.

SNOW SNOW SNOW SNOW SNOW EEEE HAPPY DANCING
Not a ride video - a forced rest day. Need a cassette tool to get the trainer ready to ride indoors and summer tires on the commuter still. It's beautiful to look at though.

Looking forward to sharing winter commute videos now that cold weather batteries are ordered! #cycling

Things I did yesterday instead of doomscrolling (inspired by @electrarhodes.bsky.social):

1. Sewing first sweatpants, halfway through.
2. Ate at Gujarati AYCE restaurant for @gooutsidetoday.com's birthday. (SO GOOD)
3. Got my Linux plain text editor to do my bidding.
4. Wild keyboard changes (1/2)

My favourite sociological fact is that people will call YOU very interesting if the conversation consists of YOU asking a thousand questions about the other person. Want to be considered interesting? Do this thing!
I've noticed a trend towards noticeable incuriousity in conversations over the last few years—if you're only going to talk about yourself, don't be surprised when people tire of listening. Asking questions (and follow up questions) is a skill! Other people are not NPCs!
Why Aren't Men Asking Women Questions on Dates?
"The cashiers at Trader Joe's ask more questions than guys on dates."

Reader, I was wrong. I now have a very good cup of earl grey tea to go with my chocolate, thus making the day even better
Cheney died, my favourite band played live for the first time in about 8 years, NYC elected a 34 year-old socialist for mayor, the sun is out in Wellington, and I have hazelnut chocolate. Very few ways this day could improve much more
Cheney was so evil that him dying actually lifted a curse

Don't forget that Zohran Mamdani spent his entire campaign standing proudly beside the trans community. He went to trans rights rallies just to show support. He proudly waved trans rights flags without hesitation. He refused to back down in support of trans rights. That makes me happy.
