I get there are people out there who are like “oooh, banks love interest so of course they’d want this” but this is actually a huge actuarial risk problem

50 year loans are basically unheard of for residential ownership except as a last line of credit to prevent outright bankruptcy and loss for financiers. Barring a rapid increase in life expectancy, I really don’t see why bank would actually want to make this a thing even with Fed backing

But without building any equity for like 20 years. It’s just a rent payment. But with no one wanting to back your rent payment because they could be on the hook if you leave this world long before paying even a small proportion of it

There are real and numerous operational hurdles to consider in doing this, but I agree that such a service should exist at least on winter weekends. King County could help cross-subsidise fares with imposition of a commercial parking tax specific to the ski resort under existing statute
