Sad Win of the Week
@saddestfootballwin.bsky.social
We track a truly useless "statistic" in following 'Murrican Futtball, in that each week, a game will (usually) be deemed to be a Sad Win.

Completely manually updated by @joshuanortonii.bsky.social , who couldn't write a script if his life depended on it.
A big thank you to San Francisco 49ers for breaking up what would otherwise have been a goddamn four-way Sad Win of the Week tie! I swear, I was almost ready to just declare this entire season completely tied up.

Plus, their final SWotW score of +7 is very much Not Sad, so good for them!

So, despite the account being new, I've actually been doing this for a few years now.

And let me tell you, the amount of ties for SWotW this year is unlike any other year I've done this (two more)!

Eagles, Dolphins, and Texans are all sharing the SWotW score of -7, a Somewhat Sad Threesome.

While we are anticipating (and perversely hoping like a true sick) that this will be the Sad Win of the Week.

No Scorigami, but currently tied with Miami for Sad Win of the Week.

They're starting slow in Philly, though...

Sad Kick of the Week.

This game has a 22.53% chance of ending up the Sad Win of the Week.

Trump's second presidency would have gotten an honorable SWOTW lifetime award, except nothing about him is honorable.

WEEK 10:

Another tie, and this time, the tie also ties the leading SWOTW score. Both Broncos and Eagles ended with a final score of -19, escaping a truly devastating score thanks to the lack of a true shootout this week.

Still, we deem this Very Sad.

Finally, you may ask: Why is there a T-rex with an open mouth as a profile picture for this account?

It's hard to tell, especially on a phone, but it's actually a football player sadly squatting and sadly looking at the (presumably sad) football he's holding.

And by looking at these stories, we find that no matter how optimized the game is, no matter how much cunning and smarts the coaching team possesses, no matter how much raw talent is on the roster...

...Football still remains random and stupid enough to often make none of that matter.
November 7, 2025 at 10:21 PM
But when I see things like Anthony Richardson being last or close to last in any basic or advanced stat you care to tell me about, and was still within spitting distance of making the playoffs last season... Well, the Sad Wins is part of that story.

Bryce Young can still do it this year.
November 7, 2025 at 10:21 PM
And as much as I f.ex. am continuously awestruck by, say, Lamar Jackson, who could retire today and still make the Hall of Fame, thanks to all the amazing football he's already shown us... Well, everyone follows that story. Of course we do. Why wouldn't we?

And it is thanks to me doing Sad Win of the Week that I paid enough attention to these results, that motivated me to look at those stats.

One great, one good, one abysmal.

In football, the last one can still be the winner.
November 7, 2025 at 10:21 PM
The Sad Wins are not initially fun games to watch, especially not compared to a 47-42 shootout decided in the last half minute of the game.

But the Sad Wins often have some really interesting stories, if you are willing to dig underneath the dirty surface.
November 7, 2025 at 10:21 PM
And yet, this week, Bryce was the winner. And Jordan, who had an acceptable day at work, and Joe, who had an excellent day at work, both lost.

This is really the beauty, and if you want it to be, the point of Sad Win of the Week.
November 7, 2025 at 10:21 PM
Joe Flacco threw 470 yards(!!!), 31/47 completions (66%), 4 Touchdowns(!)... and also 2 INTs, because he's Joe Flacco, and that's what he does.

Still got a passer rating of 109.4. He threw almost as many throws as Jordan and Bryce combined. He lapped them in passing yards and TDs.
November 7, 2025 at 10:21 PM
As Jon Bois would have said it: Jordan Love did as much as he could, without doing anything at all. And one TD would have increased that passer rating significantly.

This is so sad.

Let's make it sadder.

Let's revisit that Bengals game I mentioned in the quoted skeet.
November 7, 2025 at 10:21 PM
Let us first repeat Bryce Young's stats this game:

Bryce Young threw 102 yards, 11/20 completions (55%), 0 TD, 1 INT, and a 48.3 passer rating.

His opponent, Jordan Love:

273 passing yards, 26/37 completions (70%), 0 TD, 1 INT, 80.1 passer rating.
November 7, 2025 at 10:21 PM
WEEK 9:

The Panthers are also showing up for the second time, and this one is even sadder than the score indicates.

Final SWotW score: -18.

Bryce Young threw 102 yards, 11/20 completion, 0 TD, 1 INT.... And won.

Meanwhile, the Bengals once again scored over 35 points... and lost.
November 7, 2025 at 9:58 PM
WEEK 8:

While this is the second time the Bucs are ending up here, they shouldn't feel too bad about it, as we get our first Not Sad win for the season!

Final SWotW score: +4!

Meanwhile, the Jets won a game 39-38. Look at the previous two posts and read that again.

What. The. Fuck.

I plan to eventually start filling up past seasons as well, but for now, let us ensure we have the 2025 season thread well underway:

The 2025 Sad Win of the Week Thread!

Pretty much what the title says, so let's not waste any more time:

WEEK 7:

Oh hey, it's the Jets on the losing end. Again. And they lost while allowing only 13 points against them. Again. Only the Jets.

FINAL SWotW score: -13, and what makes this even sadder is that the Jets stole all the attention away from the winning team (the Panthers) with their shenanigans.
November 7, 2025 at 9:32 PM
WEEK 6:

The Broncos are back, and this time, they are determined to show us just how Sad they can be, scoring only 13 points against the Jets.

Honestly, having to play the Jets at all is pretty sad.

Final SWotW score: -11, getting us into proper Sad Win territory again.
