6/7 But the truth is so much more righteous than the evils imagined by those that distrust. Lets be willing to try to convince our communities that we are trying to do good, not just for ourselves, but for our communities.

5/7 How should admissions decisions be made? How should the need to air differing opinions be balanced? We may not like everything we hear, but we should listen.
For some of us, being transparent may be painful. Some universities have large endowments and many privileged students.

4/7 There has been a deafening silence from academia, almost as if we are ashamed of what we do. We are not ashamed. We are doing the right thing.
We should invite them in. And we should listen. We should listen to what our communities have to say. How should financial aid be apportioned?

(3/7) ...about great works of art and literature and about the history of this great country and of our neighbors in the world. Here is where they learn about philosophy and business and engineering. Do you really want to close these doors? We should do it soon, in May or June.

Now is the time for a National Teach-In. (1/7) Not just for students, for the whole community. Colleges and universities need to make the case to our communities of our value . We should invite the community in, open up the books, let them know: here is where the tuition money goes...

Any word yet on when study sections are going to be allowed to post to the federal register? When are the February, March meetings likely to be resheduled for? Trying to keep my lab afloat.

Check out the Washington Post letters to the editor. Titled "Seven ways of looking at Trump's first few weeks in office" its mostly (4.5/7) pretty pro. Maybe those are the only people writing, but I think it more likely that darkness aside, democracy has died. Thanks Jeff.
