HBO Chairman and CEO Casey Bloys explained the network's reliance on IP to engage their audience. What do y'all think of this strategy? For me, I admit that it's a winner, but IP fatigue is a real problem, too.
“We are also leaning into the power of IP to help fill a void,” he said. “In the past, HBO has always had the benefit of multiple studio output deals with a movie guaranteed every Saturday night. This proved extremely impactful with subscribers. Massive Hollywood marketing campaigns brought huge awareness to these titles. So, they became big engagement drivers for us. But as you are all probably aware, most studios are now holding onto these films for their own platforms.”

A reminder that the FCC's authority over the licenses of broadcasters is limited and the president not liking what someone on broadcast said does not fall in that purview.

Broadcasters are responsible for their own programming, not the FCC or any other government agency. The FCC is prohibited from censoring what is aired on broadcast. They also don’t intervene in private disputes involving broadcast stations and their licensees. The agency doesn’t license TV or radio networks. It is barred from telling station licensees how to select the material that airs on the news. The FCC also cannot prohibit a broadcaster from airing an opinion on any subject. It doesn’t review anyone’s qualifications to engage in broadcast journalism whether that’s gathering information, editing, announcing, or commenting on the news because that’s the responsibility of the licensee.

Smoke on Apple TV+ is making a strong case for a live-action Firebug or Firefly drama. The series follows two serial arsonists under investigation. There's a stunning attention to the depiction of fire and the reasons for these crimes that lends itself well to a DC villain story.

The WGA's 2025 Inclusion & Equity report has me wondering how more progress can be made. An 8.4% increase in employed TV writers of color in the 2023-24 season is not enough when jobs are down and white men make up 46.2% of showrunners.

Out of all of the TV premiering in June, I'm most looking forward to #TheBear season 4. I love dropping into what's happening at the restaurant and with this found family.

Ellie grabbing the Monster at the end of this Book for the baby is my underrated #TheLastOfUs S2 finale moment. It's my favorite children's book, but I don't have my original copy so seeing Ellie with an OG printing that has the classic Little Golden Books spine warmed my heart.
