This is How You Lose the Time War by @maxgladstone.bsky.social and @amalelmohtar.com —♾️⭐️

Absolutely no one is writing romance like this and I mean NO ONE. Breathtakingly beautiful, stunning prose. It made me tear up! Ugh, what a wonderful book. You should read it.

Witch King by @marthawells.com —4.75⭐️

Shaving a quarter of a star off because the beginning felt long. But boy once it picked up…I loved the characters, especially my boy Kai. I loved the ending and the flashbacks most especially. I recommend if you like second world high fantasy!

The River Has Roots by @amalelmohtar.com —5⭐️

This was GORGEOUSLY written. It made me immediately grab my wife’s copy of This is How You Lose the Time War. The story was beautiful and made me tear up!! So emotional and grammar as a magic system?? Hell yeah!

The Unworthy by Agustina Bazterrica—5⭐️

This was insanely beautiful and haunting. Just as twisted as Tender is the Flesh, just as violent. But also tender (lol) with the relationship between our narrator and a stranger who arrives at the convent. Highly recommend!

A Drop of Corruption by Robert Jackson Bennett—4.5⭐️

Just as fun as the first one, albeit a bit long. But I don’t think anything should be cut! If you enjoy fantasy detective mysteries, you’ll enjoy this!

Beautyland by Marie-Helene Bertino—5⭐️

Beautifully written and I loved Adina so much. Her observations on humans were both funny and kind of heartbreaking. Well worth the read!

Audition by Ryu Murakami—4.75⭐️

What did I just read. No really. But also…why was it so good once you got past his misogynistic friend??? Such a creepy story. Not for the faint hearted!

They Can’t Kill Us Until They Kill Us by Hanif Abdurraqib—5⭐️

Ingenious to use music as a framework for the essays! Heartbreaking and a good look at grief. Cannot recommend enough!

There’s Always This Year by Hanif Abdurraqib—♾️ stars

I’m giving this my highest rating, which is infinity stars. Sometimes books come to you at the exact right time, and I find this especially true with essay books. What Abdurraqib achieves here is nothing short of beautiful.

Cello’s Gate by Maurice Africh—5⭐️

Thank you to the author for the review copy ! I freaking adored this. And I usually hate heist books! This was sold to me as inspired by Firefly, Treasure Planet, Star Wars and Final Fantasy, and BOY DID IT DELIVER.

RUN, DO NOT WALK to pick this up! #booksky

Bibliophobia by Sarah Chihaya—4.5⭐️

What’s your Life Ruiner book? An enjoyable memoir, though I did find myself getting a bit mired down in some of the evaluations of books. Still recommend! (Btw, my Life Ruiner is Martyr! by Kaveh Akbar.)

This was heartbreakingly, beautifully written. This poor girl’s family! The last 30% had me in tears! I do recommend but please mind your trigger warnings. I almost quit a few times (but glad I didn’t!).

While this was beautifully written, and the relationship between our two main characters is about human connection, I feel this the weakest of Han Kang's books. Still enjoyable, of course!

Hungerstone by Kat Dunn - 4.25 ⭐️

This was a fun Carmilla retelling. We support women's wrongs in this house and oh boy was I rooting for the ending. I did predict some of the happenings, which is why it's 4.25 stars. But still fun! Pick it up Feb 18!

Model Home by Rivers Solomon—6⭐️

This was hauntingly beautiful (lol at haunting). The prose was stunning, I loved the characters. The lengths we go to in order to deny reality—and the grief we undergo when confronted with it. Stunning.
