Amsterdam: walking, bikes, and boats. This is a city that lives multimodal - freedom to get around however! (bus/subway/tram happening off camera 😅)

In #saanch took the #ebike for a #DQ run. I noticed they have compostable spoons now too. Neat!

Scenes from a smoky dusk on my commute home in @victoria.ca. It is so cool that you can get up close to ships and see the refit in progress at Point Hope Shipyard along the road and protected cycle path.

The #ecargobikelife makes it errands easy. I fit in a grocery stop on the commute home with lots of room for a good sized shop. Also crucial to have more routes to get to destinations like the AAA in #yyj - thank you @victoria.ca and #saanich for that !

Heavy traffic when driving on the left, heavy traffic when cycling on the right in #yyj I have more fun cycling - and for me it's often faster than driving. Grateful for the infrastructure we have @victoria.ca #saanich 🙏🚴‍♂️🚶🚶‍♂️🚴‍♀️

After dinner I realized we were short on a few supplies. Quiet evening streets in #saanich make it easy to use my #ecargobike to the grocery store and get home in minutes. And it's fun to ride too!

Scenes from my #ebike commute to work each day. The little exercise, feeling the wind and sun, and being in a bit of nature helps balance work stress. I find my days feel far better starting (and ending) this way! #cargobikelife #yyj #saanich

I had a lot of fun riding my #ebike downtown to meet good friends at a pub patio. Catching up with friends can seem hard to do when it's busy but it always makes me feel better. It's nice being out to catch the sunset and city lights too.

When you're late for work, being stuck behind a raised bridge can be frustrating. But then again you can get a front row seat to a working harbour, and spot some heavy duty marine traffic getting the job done. Very cool! #blueeconomy #workingharbour #yyj

What do I do about rain when cycle commuting? For me, I have a decent jacket and athletic pants. I keep a change of dry clothes and shoes in a cubby at work to change if I need it. I seem to need them only a few times per year. I'm always nice and dry all day at work!

An inspiring visit to #scienceworld today in #yvr started incredible as my kiddo got to honk the #skytrain horn on the ride in. Pretty good for his first visit!

I love maintenance free things. My #ebike belt drive and internal gear hub never needs any cleaning, oiling, anything. After almost 3 years of commuting almost every day in #yyj and #saanich. No squeaky or rusty chains, or sketchy shifting. It just works. Awesome! #cargobikelife

I learned the @victoria.ca bike valet at city hall hit their all time single day record with over 370 bikes on Deuce Day Sunday. Kudos to the bike valet team for handling a huge surge. Next time a decicated bike valet on site would be needed for sure! 😀 🚴🚴‍♀️🚴‍♂️ #yyj

Years of #ebike commuting in, I still love riding. There's lots of great views you experience while on a bike. I can tell it reduces my stress too because I'm grumpy when I have to commute another way 😜

Beat the summer heat at the beach! Fit our stuff and a little sun shelter in our cargo bike and parked at a rack steps from the sand. Love shoes like Natives for pedaling and beach walking #cargobikelife #yyj #saanich

You don't need expensive gear in the #cargobikelife. For two winters these ankle mud boots got me to work with warm + dry tootsies. Style points are a little low 😉 but I got them for 30$ at Mark's 😃 bonus - they work great in the garden and rainy beach days too! #activetransportation #cargobikes

A shout out to @saanichbc.bsky.social for this bit of new active transportation infrastructure. Flashers and a short multi use trail helps cross an awkward section of busy road. It connects huge Tolmie park to a major bike route. Thank you!

On top of this, transportation in sprawl is dominated by single occupancy vehicles - the most emissions intensive, and expensive for everyone.

We can have both single family homes, townhomes, condos. But diversity in housing types will help reduce environmental impacts and reduce costs for everyone
Reminder of what happens when cities make it hard to build in core areas. 2016 vs. 2014, same location, greater Victoria.

Build up, not out.

Cost is what you pay, value is what you get. It feels like this gets confused too often. And then there is a desire to cut costs no matter what. But it really boils down to how we ALL benefit as a community - a city - a nation - with investments like this. And end up paying less overall.
IMPORTANT: The Dutch invested €595 million annually on urban biking, resulting in €19 BILLION saved in public health care costs alone. That’s how smart govts do math on investing in better mobility.

Let’s be clear — it wastes public money to NOT do it.

I see so much potential like this in my home of #saanich in Canada. What would you prefer - more amenities like cafes, outdoor seating, trees... Or more parking for cars 😅

I frequently worry about how my young kids will be able to find a place of their own in our community. A wider range of housing than mostly SFH will give more options for them to stay here.
Website does not have a single mention of:
-Families
-Children
-Youth
-Young people

No advocacy on their housing needs or what’s needed to support their well-being. Who exactly are they saving?

We should be protecting the characters in our community; planning for their needs helps us all thrive!
