Some guy posted in the Greater Petworth Facebook group complaining/warning that the zoning commission is considering changing the 10-foot rule for pop-backs to a 16-foot rule and honestly I’m surprised the majority of comments are YIMBY pushback

(Side note: this Facebook page for DC tourists is just constantly full of praise for our city. People are constantly praising our residents, transit, offerings. I never see complaints about crime or anything else)

As the sun was setting, suddenly it hit the clear patch of sky & it went from dull & overcast to brilliantly blindingly orange in a split second. This first picture is after the sun already set, but you can see the difference between the clouds and the patch of clear sky.

Amazing phenomenon yesterday evening. I was out with my toddler and all evening the entire sky was blanketed with clouds, which the sun was hidden behind. But there was this *small* patch of clear sky in the west by the horizon.

Love the views you can get from my neighborhood Randle Heighlands. These are all street-level views of:
1. The National Basilica behind the DC Armory
2. The Air Force Memorial behind the FDM Bridge
3. Bethesda
4. Capitol Dome, Library of Congress, and National Cathedral

I’m not sure exactly. This presentation had 35 countries surveyed 2024-2025. The latest thing I can find online was just 2024 data for 24 countries. This had Tanzania at the bottom:

Fascinating stats from @afrobarometer.bsky.social on which African countries have the most citizens considering emigrating. At the top: The Gambia, Liberia, Ghana, Cabo Verde, Angola, Sierra Leone.

Overall East Africa doing much better than West and Southern Africa.

Alright folks. You can only live & travel within one region of DC for the rest of your life. What are you?

Excited to announce that our family is reaching personal replacement fertility rate. There’s gonna be another passenger for the Madsen bike, coming this December. This time it’s gonna be a girl!

Listening to last week's Compound & Friends and just want to point out that, in my effort to invest in Africa, I've been investing in the AFK ETF since 2014! Unfortunately, I am still down 18.39%.

Thousands of children will likely die because Musk and Marocco are going on an ideological rampage, Trump doesn’t care, and Rubio and Republican senators are spineless.

This lawsuit by a USAID Foreign Service Officer is of unspeakable horror. The US government has abandoned him and his 31-week pregnant wife who is hemorrhaging in a foreign hospital in a volatile, insecure country

People are always complaining about demands their Airbnb hosts put on them & I don’t understand where they find these places. In Greece, we had numerous Airbnbs gave us wine or liquor as a welcome gift. These were the (amazing) checkout instructions for our recent stay in Tempe.
