As the saying goes: when there’s smoke, and flames, and a roaring, crackling sound, and an acrid, burning stench that stings your eyes, and freaked out people running for the exits, you have to consider the possibility that there might be a fire.

“Standing up to Donald Trump didn’t work.”

Has there ever been a more self-fulfilling, self-defeating mewl of cowardice and fecklessness than this utterance by Senator Angus King on his vote to betray the antifascist coalition and capitulate to Trump and his cult of enablers?

“A lot of people worked for a long time to achieve that measles elimination status, and to lose it in one year because of a failure of government action … for a disease that’s totally preventable, it just makes me sad.”

If a Democratic president had pardoned this man, it would be the absolute end of their political career.
A Trump supporter who fired off a gun during the 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol was arrested last month on kidnapping and sexual assault charges, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office in Illinois.

This is embarrassing and exasperating. Measles is a preventable illness that can cause serious complications including death. There is no good reason for Canada to fail to contain it, but there are bad-faith actors with blood on their hands for spreading antivax disinformation

The return of measles in the country has been largely attributed to lower childhood vaccination rates

A couple people on here theorized in my replies that Trump's bulldozing of the East Wing was the work of a narcissist attempting to punish us for No Kings.

And I wonder now if doubling down on the SNAP and airline pain is his attempt to punish everyone for Tuesday's election results.

The Democrats won several VA House seats where winning looked like a pipe dream going into the election. The Dems won these seats because they recruited candidates and actually campaigned. Important lesson for 26--the electorate is pissed--but you can only win when you run. Run everywhere!
Democrats contested all 100 Virginia House of Delegates races. Part of the party’s statewide success is due to the synergies between the legislative and statewide campaigns—even the losing ones. This is a big reason why Jay Jones won comfortably. This is a model the Dems should emulate everywhere

Not the main point and I agree with Grossman’s point, but I would add that I hope Mamdani draws a clear distinction between his policy goals, centred on affordability, and his policy ideas, which might or might not work. I hope he takes a creative try-lots-of-ideas-and-keep-what-works approach.
Very weird to see the president dismantling rule of law and free trade while picking winners and losers in the market, and have a public freakout over a mayoral candidate proposing free busses.

If it doesn't work, and spends a lot of money for little benefit, reverse the bus policy. Not a big deal.
