Thank you for carrying that history and for sharing it. Those stories still need to be heard. I try to explain what those years were like to my kids and they look at me like I’m making stuff up.

Yeah, those color coded ball end electric strings will spoil ya.

So does that mean the savings from executive bonuses will just go back to increasing workers’ wages?!?

We used to have a bookkeeper who had a very conservative upbringing and put a “swear jar” in the center of the conference table at all the managers’ meetings. One dollar fine for all infractions.

But without executives, WHO WILL CREATE VALUE FOR THE SHAREHOLDERS?!?

Isaac the Blind of Provence. Could be a medieval scholar of the Kabbalah, could be a mean slide guitar blues player from the 1930s. You decide!

I’m skeptical about the Lay’s in that it makes claim on the whole dinner. But I will offer my personal testimony on the absolute addictive deliciousness of Trader Joe’s Thanksgiving stuffing flavored potato chips.

It rained sideways all day here in Portland. But that’s how we do. Thankful to be dry and warm with old friends and good food.

My mom worked at a university and there was a steady parade of orphaned students showing up at the house on major holidays. She couldn’t bear the thought of them not getting a decent dinner with family, even if it wasn’t their own!

I like to go rose/pistachio/cardamom or orange/walnut/nutmeg. But I won’t say no to any of it, especially if there’s strong coffee involved.

Rose water or orange blossom water? Pistachio or walnuts?

She’ll bring both, she knows how I roll. Old college housemate who has shared more Thanksgivings than we have spent with blood relatives. I can cook whatever fancy gourmet shit, but sometimes it has to be like grandma did it.

We are hosting this year. A guest volunteered to bring cranberries. I told her I would make sure that the can opener was tuned and sharp because you need a clean cut to make sure it comes out in a perfect cylinder.

It’s all just a vehicle for gravy consumption.

The reductionist “I don’t believe and I’m against it / I believe and I’m for it” discourse doesn’t ever address how religion functions in society or how religion is used for claims of secular authority or power.

As an atheist with a religious studies degree, gotta say, we don’t talk enough about this.

Honestly. I think it’s brilliant on Fender’s part. The Boomer rock god worshipping market has faded. Kids couldn’t care if it’s “to the exact specs of Clapton’s!” Manufacturing is comparatively cheap. Mix it up. See what sticks.

So part of the Fender Paranormal series?

This may be the funniest thing I read all day.

Doesn’t the term “deportation judge” rather than “immigration judge” suggest that there is an expected outcome of the trial regardless of facts?

My son attends an alternative school with an outdoor focus. Every day he brings home at least two new sticks in his backpack, which we must keep. Some days there are rocks. There was a brick once. He complains that hi backpack is too heavy. Pity me.

So you can’t fight something you don’t understand, but you can hate it? I think I see what’s happening here.

There’s something about the moment when the Postal Service sued The Postal Service who ended up being spokespeople for the Postal Service that feels pivotal to the state of the modern world.

In America, we live the commons, but only if it is privately owned and for profit!
