The Internet Archive has to date downloaded 500 terabytes of US government websites, which it crawls at the end of every presidential term. The whole archive is fully searchable. This effort's housed by a donation-funded nonprofit, not a branch of the US government. blog.archive.org/2024/05/08/e...

Think about the fact that the **Journal of the American Medical Association** has to write this article.

Let that sink in.

This Viewpoint discusses scientific, medical, and public health actions taken so far during the first week of the administration.

Something is embarrassing but the call is coming from inside the house. I’m sorry, but it’s bad. Sometimes it’s okay to say “no” in defense of the constitutional order and our most valued traditions. We don’t need to entertain all ideas as having equal merit or pretend by going through the motions.

Step 1: Create a text-prediction tool

Step 2: Make it so good at predicting text that it can fake writing in ways that are often convincing, and sometimes better than an average person

Step 3: Tell people that this will become artificial general intelligence

And it works! Somehow, step 3 works.

What's happened to X proves the need for Bluesky. The future company is a possible adversary. We make decisions knowing that we won't always be here or won't always be able to control the company's decisions. It's why we've given you the freedom of exit to go elsewhere w your followers and data.
one of bluesky’s mottos is “the company is a future adversary,” so we have to design this service in a way that preserves user choice & freedom

users should own their data, identity, and relationships on the social internet, and devs should never get locked out of the ecosystems that they build

You don't have to defend every book on the list.

You have to object to the government telling you which ones you're allowed to see.

And in Iowa, you have to object to the ban being expanded from school libraries to public libraries and bookshops.
