Hope you all had a Happy Halloween!
Having recently seen the Drunk Shakespeare Society perform Drunk Dracula a few weeks ago, the story was fresh on my mind, so there were no real surprises there. What I found most entertaining in this movie was the acting and the blood!

Oooh, this was a wild one! Playing an art thief and schizophrenic (?) serial killer this time, Josh Ruben once again graces my screen in some rather gruesome psychosis-induced body horror scenes!

Ok, imagine if Encino Man was actually an evil alien instead of a chill caveman, and under the control of a young girl, then take out all the famous actors and make it a B-horror by adding a bunch of exploding bodies and an absolutely ridiculous script!

Another film directed by Josh Ruben, Werewolves Within is actually based on a video game of the same name, which is in turn based on the social party game Werewolf (aka Mafia).

This movie is so gory! And most of it takes place without any music, which gets old real fast. I couldn't figure out what the killer's motivation was cause the small amount of backstory didn't really explain it.

I strongly feel that Josh Ruben said to himself, “I'm a Noise Boy. I'm gonna make a movie that relies heavily on the noises I can make with my mouth.” Boy howdy did he do it well! The intimate cabin setting made it feel like I was in the room with them.

Five people are trapped in an elevator and one of them is the Devil. But which one?
I kinda liked this movie, but not enough to rave about it. I did not correctly guess which character was the devil, and the ending was surprising to me. It was a pretty good PG-13 thriller.

So… the first half hour of the movie was mostly 🌽. If you are sensitive to that type of imagery, avoid this one. There are also 2 graphic su*cide scenes.
I typically don't read about the movies before watching them, but this is one that not knowing about it was detrimental to me.

OOOOOH! I have been so excited to watch this one! I think Final Destination is my favorite horror movie franchise, cause it's just gory fun! This one was entertaining the entire time, had some bloody creative deaths, and...

This was not at all what I remembered it to be! I'm sure it was actually really scary in 1963, with the green screens, fake blood, and fear in the actors’ eyes. I noticed that there was little to no background music, which I think deepened the intensity of the scenes.

I knew this was connected to The Amityville Horror, which we watched last year, but I didn't realize that this one is based on the case files of real paranormal investigators, where TAH was loosely based on true events. So like, same same, but different, ya know?

This is one I have seen before, and boy is it fun! A schizophrenic guy hears the voices of his pets, telling him to do things like stop taking his meds and killing someone? The songs are silly, there is plenty of slashing, Ryan is pretty, and the cat is the best character!

I'll preface this with the fact that I don't much care for Adam Sandler movies. This is definitely his humor, as he is credited as a writer. I wouldn't say that I “liked” this movie, but I didn't hate it? It was very silly, teenage boy humor (PG-13).

Who goes to a horror movie and leaves sobbing? Me. I lost my dad and would give anything to talk to him again. 😭 Here I was thinking this'd be a fun sequel to The Black Phone and not something that punches me in the heart!
I liked the first one, and was hopeful for this!

Devon Sawa plays an absolutely oblivious teen stoner whose parents are killed. Bless his innocent heart, thinking that hiding under their bedsheets will protect him. Devon did really well with the physicality of having a possessed hand!

These people are dumb.
This movie was slow.
Who is Leatherface?
Well, now I know.
(Using poetry to combat the brutality!)
Other thoughts:
•Is blowing raspberries a common thing in the 70s?

As a rock climber, I knew I'd have to suspend my disbelief in order to believe that this movie was even possible, but for the love of everything holy, WHY WOULD YOU CLIP A ROPE ONLY TO EACH OTHER AND NOT THE STRUCTURE??? WHAT IS THE POINT OF A ROPE? MUTUALLY ASSURED DESTRUCTION?

Rosemary did not belong in the 60s. That poor girl just wanted a healthy pregnancy and baby, and a supportive husband. She got 0/3. :( Her friends were sweet and tried to help, but she kept getting dragged back into the plot.

A monster/body horror movie based on a Stephen King novella that takes place in a grocery store after a big storm, where a group of small town folks try to figure out what's in the mist surrounding them and how to survive.

This was absolutely LESS scary than The Grudge! It was just a mystery thriller with a sprinkling of horror imagery and jump scares. It was interesting and sad. I tried to guess the twist but I didn't get it at all! Love when that happens!

This was the dumbest movie I have ever seen. It wasn't funny, or clever, or interesting, or scary in the least! What the hell was it then? 1:44 of wasted time! I am not the intended audience for whatever garbage this was. Good night.

This was another long movie (runtime 2:10) with drawn out scenes that toed the line between building tension and becoming tedious. The music did a good job of warning you when jump scares were about to happen.

Wow! What a wild movie full of twists and gasps! It was totally different than what I was expecting. I thought Saw=gore, but it was actually 90% psychological horror and 10% body horror/gore. And even then, the gore wasn't nearly as gross as some other movies I've seen.

I didn't realize this was another A24 film!
The soundtrack has just about every swear word you can think of! Pete Davidson's character is a raging a-hole. Most of the characters are in their 20s with heads full of rocks. Everyone's emotions are dialed up to 11.

Take a little bit of Signs (for how much you see Mothman), a little bit of Final Destination (for the premonitions), add a romantic subplot, and you've got The Mothman Prophecies! I suppose I liked this movie as a teen because:
