To reflect the new tarrifs placed on EU nations I will be making my posts 20% more emotionally taxing to American readers
Maybe I'm out of lockstep with most people here but I have a soft spot for Ethan Coen and Tricia Cooke's lesbian pulp movies. They might not be Fargo, but they're not necessarily trying to be Fargo.

Just discovered that my first-ever Bob Dylan gig was derided in the newspapers as proof that he was past his sell-by date while I, 19 years old and absolutely entranced, had a divine time and have seen him 4 times since. Funny, sometime you're just tuned into different things

I live in fear of dying in a visually compelling mechanical accident that some mouth breathing moron with a thumbprint on his camera lens records on his phone but totally butchers the framing of.

Stop reading self help books. Get worse. Develop weird aesthetic ideas and publish tweets to audiences of between 3-5 people. That's the path

Who has written about the through-line of childhood and perverted innocence in the big slasher icons? Leatherface as the coerced innocent, Jason as the eternally stunted child, Michael Myers as the empty child with a sense of sexual misdevelopment, Freddy Krueger as the child predator?

One aspect of the original Frankenstein that I haven't seen adapted is that the narrator, Frankenstein, is a very young man. He creates and rejects the creature in a fit of youthful arrogance and panic. His nervous moral cowardice is easily read as that of a man in his early 20s.

It's pretty funny that after a long career of mid pop music and self-conscious contrarianism, Matty Healy's most impactful contribution to pop culture has been to somehow break the brain of the world's biggest pop star.

There's something very funny about knowing that an author will appeal to you basically exactly, putting off reading them for no real reason, and then coming to their work late and a little cautiously and finding to your delight that you love it. (Finally reading Sally Rooney)

Hot girl tummy issues... Boyfriend tummy issues... Does ANYONE around here have a good gut?

I think a lot of you could do with being able to sit in discomfort a little bit more. If nothing else. It'll let me boil you frogs.

I will say that uncannily fit 62-year-old Tom Cruise in his boxers kicking a guy repeatedly in the head shouting "you spent too much time on the internet" is an image that's going to permanently reside in my head going forward. Great movie.

Call me a pedant but the new Doctor Who episode has one of the most "Huh they've got a crane now" crane shots in years.

141 pages in and I've got to say - Jake Tapper's "Original Sin" is a good book and feels like exhaling after a long held breath. That it makes Biden and leading Democrats look bad reflects the failing of the Dem leadership, not a failing of Tapper's. Trump 2.0 is squarely on Biden's circle's heads.

Man at the name-change office said "I'm sorry to ask, but are you changing your gender as well? I only ask because you have the beautiful long hair and the earrings" - so like, thanks my man - but also meant I had to give the objectively funniest possible answer of "Um, not at this stage."

Sex scene discourse again? Bluesky really is just like twitter 2020 all over again.

Say what you want about Joe Biden, but he had better hope there's no life after death, because otherwise the weight of 100,000+ murdered Palestinian souls will keep him eternally from finding peace.

It really is crazy to watch western institution after institution compromise itself just to ensure that Israel can cheat and bully and massacre without criticism.

Hey Fuck Israel and Fuck the Eurovision (and fuck our jury who somehow arrived at the decision to give 7 points to that ghoulish display)

If I was Doctor Who I simply would not have aired the centrist Eurovision / Palestine episode and would have come up with something else

Booked the day off work and spent it watching Mission Impossible 1-4 for the first time. Nice to see Tom Cruise go from young (sinister) to 40s (hot) and now going into old (sinister, but you kinda have to remind yourself)

Watching the Rockshow / Wings Over America and having got to Live and Let Die I'm very disappointed they had not yet fully invented Paul McCartney Blows Up by that stage
