Just discovered that my first-ever Bob Dylan gig was derided in the newspapers as proof that he was past his sell-by date while I, 19 years old and absolutely entranced, had a divine time and have seen him 4 times since. Funny, sometime you're just tuned into different things

Who has written about the through-line of childhood and perverted innocence in the big slasher icons? Leatherface as the coerced innocent, Jason as the eternally stunted child, Michael Myers as the empty child with a sense of sexual misdevelopment, Freddy Krueger as the child predator?

One aspect of the original Frankenstein that I haven't seen adapted is that the narrator, Frankenstein, is a very young man. He creates and rejects the creature in a fit of youthful arrogance and panic. His nervous moral cowardice is easily read as that of a man in his early 20s.

It's pretty funny that after a long career of mid pop music and self-conscious contrarianism, Matty Healy's most impactful contribution to pop culture has been to somehow break the brain of the world's biggest pop star.

There's something very funny about knowing that an author will appeal to you basically exactly, putting off reading them for no real reason, and then coming to their work late and a little cautiously and finding to your delight that you love it. (Finally reading Sally Rooney)

I will say that uncannily fit 62-year-old Tom Cruise in his boxers kicking a guy repeatedly in the head shouting "you spent too much time on the internet" is an image that's going to permanently reside in my head going forward. Great movie.

141 pages in and I've got to say - Jake Tapper's "Original Sin" is a good book and feels like exhaling after a long held breath. That it makes Biden and leading Democrats look bad reflects the failing of the Dem leadership, not a failing of Tapper's. Trump 2.0 is squarely on Biden's circle's heads.

Booked the day off work and spent it watching Mission Impossible 1-4 for the first time. Nice to see Tom Cruise go from young (sinister) to 40s (hot) and now going into old (sinister, but you kinda have to remind yourself)
