Fully support what Jack is saying here, we need more recognition of collective work and not singling out individuals, especially when they're involved in super collective work. Why not award orgs and coalitions?
With Jane Goodall's death last week and the Nobel Prize announcements this week, I wrote about why it's a big problem that we lionise individuals for achievements that resulted from the work of collective groups of people.
We spend too much time lionising people like Jane Goodall
Idolising people only entrenches the idea that it is spectacular individuals, not collectives, who change the world.

Before we celebrate the whole Peace Prize winner and take for granted what the committee said about her, can we check on her freaking politics? Like how she wants to privatize the oil sector and renew engagement with international financial institutions?

there really is something inherently abusive about AI. Buying into the hype means you are perpetually gaslighting your workers while desperately explaining away its faults as if they're either your own or your employees. Very nasty stuff.

The last few months I've gotten into looking at posts from craft groups, embroidery groups, diorama groups and such. I realize now that I find comfort in them because they're beautiful things that people make with their hands and not digital slop

The thing about science is when it works, people don't realise it because it just eliminates the problem. Take quicksand. In the 80s it was a HUGE issue, it was everywhere. Now its mostly eradicated and we barely give it a thought, but ask any kid from the 80s, they'll tell you what it was like then

You know you can just not use AI, right?

You can make a choice not to be part of this.

Even if your job uses it, YOU don’t have to in your normal life. You don’t have to let your kids use it.

You didn’t have it three years ago. You can just…be on Team Human. You can choose.

Ok, the plague doctors would normally be anachronistic, but Nicholas Cage’s presence in anything renders it secondary world, as he is not actually from this world.

Once again I am watching The Pitt while eating and once again it is a mistake. The eating, not The Pitt, I rather like The Pitt.

Some random mutual aid Signal chat: No real names used, nothing ever leaks. Messages delete after one hour, a guy complains that it's not set at 10-minute delete. Everyone knows each other in real life, says nothing.

Getting sick & tired of all the older actresses saying that they don't need / want / weren't aware of intimacy coordinators. Can't you just like shut up and let progress happen for the younger generation??

I want the creators of The Good Fight to make an intensely political & dramatic revival of Parks and Recreation that's all about the current moment. It would probably be 2 episodes though, if I'm realistic, until all the jobs are cut.

Truly upset & disgusted by the news about the Tate brothers. But not surprised, knowing how fucking absolutely shitty Romania is re: women and all the forms of violence against them. And this strong feeling of shame being Romanian. Fuck that shit.

This is what revisionist history looks like, in real time. And this also is why it might appear that archaeologists and historians have to dig deep to discover the existence of powerful women and marginalized groups -- because their legacies are so often erased.

Really pissed off seeing Elon Musk cozying up to fucking AfD only because imo he hates the labor laws in Germany and he has a factory here that he want to get more out of.

Also, data centers are horrifyingly detrimental to living creatures

Thinking about how capital is reorienting around trumpofascism and how I'm very much expecting funding for culture to go to the most milquetoast white cishet male stories for a while. It's a bummer. The age of abundant streaming options gave me decision fatigue, now it's gonna be slim pickens
