Happy World #Ocean Day all! After spending an inspiring week at the One Ocean Congress in Nice, I am remembering one of my favourite ocean encounters, which occurred in my home waters of the U.K., in #Cornwall. Showing that British seas host big critters too! #OOSC #shark @exetermarine.bsky.social

The @exeter.ac.uk #Cornwall campus is looking beautiful this #spring! Lovely to see a few of my colleagues @uniexecec.bsky.social who were also out and about appreciating the sunshine and spring blooms 😁

New paper out TODAY in @consletters.bsky.social led by Dr Philine zu Ermgassen. Applying the IUCN #Ecosystem #RedListing criteria to historical & recent data, we find that European native oysters (O. edulis) are #Collapsed. Open access paper at lnkd.in/dJbbkzEa. Image: Maria Eggertsen

#Oyster reefs formed over areas spanning hectares to km2, supporting a species-rich community. Only 1/4 of sources described extent, yet the area = >17,000 km2. Little of this habitat exists today but growing restoration interest lends hope that this important ecosystem may flourish again

Hi all, I'm looking forward to (re)connecting on BlueSky. I am a marine historical #ecologist based at the @uniofexeter.bsky.social #Cornwall campus. Interested in past and future #oceans and #fisheries, responses to change and social-cultural #history of #coastal and #marine systems.
